I am excited because I am going from this phone...

to an Evo tomorrow when my BB pre-order comes in... Had an upgrade for the last 2 years but never used it..

On a more serious note.. never had a droid before, anything useful I need to know? I've already ordered two spare batteries (to offset battery drain issues), car chargers, etc... Curious if there is a consensus body glove that people feel works out great.. have to protect your investment. Don't think I will get into rooting.. I'm completely scared to do it.. for the same reasons I haven't modded my Xbox...

BTW I live in Raleigh, NC and attend school in Greensboro NC areas that Sprint claims to have great 4G coverage in... crossing my fingers.

congrats. 2 batteries??? geez. its not that bad. i last all day on 1 battery. just read around a little to get a feel of the phone. read the manual and just mess around with the phone until you are happy with all the settings.

Thanks guys.. I guess an additional question I am completely ignorant to androids.. are most apps free? Are NO apps free? Just curious.. friends have been saying, man you have to get "this" app or "that" app.. but I will obviously be a little more cautious if every app has some associated fee.

I have 30ish apps and only ever paid for one, and that one has lesser functioning free ones available. I just like that one...

The majority of apps are free.

most are free. the really polished and best apps have a small cost to them, usually.

Yeah, like $1 - $2 small. even as cheap as most all are, I maybe have 8 paid apps, the rest were free. And most of my paid apps I had free versions of. Didn't really upgrade them to paid for any added functionality, just liked them a lot, want the developer to make some money so he keeps doing his thing.

About the only paid app I couldn't do without is Sleepy Time, my sound machine.

hey, the mm8400 was a great phone. vga screen and all!

Ha, it really was though.. I will miss the speaker phone.. and having a big bright light for video messages.. it was ahead of it's time (kinda) .. won't miss my battery dying after 2 hrs of browsing the mobile-web, talking a little, texting, and general down time.

there is a lot of free options...

if they cost .. it is normally really small $1-3. few are higher but not more than say $6.

did you know.. on the apps that cost $$
you have 24 hrs to try it out.. if you dont like.. can get a full refund!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I came from a low-end Blackberry and I thought that was a huge jump :)
I pretty much spent half of a day just finding out how things work with trial and error. The rest of it was trying to settle on a way to customize my homescreens.

Honestly you don't need two spare batteries man. I don't have an EVO (have the droid eris), but i can easily make it through a day with hard use. I just plug in at night. I have a car charger in my car and a charger at work though in case i need it. Return one of those batteries and pocket some coin.

Tons of apps are free, i haven't paid for one yet, there are just so many good free ones out there. But there are lots of excellent paid apps as well if you want to check them out. There is pretty much an app for anything you can think of.

Yeah I got it off Ebay in a package that included a car mount, independent charger, car charger, leather holder, the 2 batteries all for about $25. If I wouldn't of been so excited about it and all of that coming in the package I might have not gotten it. I sort of feel like the whole "battery issue" might not hit home with me too bad because on my current phone the battery has deteriorated to the point that I just keep a charger nearby because I am never sure about how it will act. Since I'm use to that, I planned on keeping one nearby with the Evo anyway.

Wow - one of the old clam shell phones. I had four of these as freebies from Sprint and still have the box with a bunch of chargers in them.
