I want to return my phone to stock, but I want it to be 2.1, not 2.0.1. I have to send this one back to Verizon and I want it to look like I've been doing things the "right" way. This particular phone has some touchscreen issues. I already have my new replacement phone. I want to get the old phone up to 2.1, but I can't activate it without deactivating my new phone, right?

I found the sbf for 2.0.1 non-root. Is there a non-root version of 2.1 available somewhere?

    Thanks!

I have not tried this so I am not speaking from experience...but you could try flashing it to the original build then do an over the air update to get up to 2.1

Edit: sorry just realized your old phone is now off the network. Tho you might try getting online via wifi and try to pull the update down that way, not sure that will work.

Right, but I think I have to activate my old phone in order to do the OTA, right? And that would mean deactivating my current phone during the process. I guess that's doable, but I've never done it and I don't know what the consequences of that might be.

I just did this. Its not a big deal. Just dial *22899 each time. I flashed the 2.0.1 sbf and by the time I checked the version, it was already downloading the 2.1 update.

You reactivated an old phone, did the upgrade, and then reactivated the new phone? If so, I'll just do it that way.

Well, I'm trying this but it's not working quite right. I flashed the 2.0.1 sbf and it started up okay, but I get a java unknown host error when doing a *#*#checkin#*#*, which wasn't really necessary. When I go to About > Phone to get for an update, it says that 2.1 is available for download, but when I press the Download button, it says that it's beginning the download, but then goes back to the screen that says 2.1 is available for download. Something is hosed somewhere. I really need to get this to a stock 2.1 before I send it back or they might say my warranty is void.

Okay, I rebooted it again and did a checkin, and that part succeeded, but it still won't download the 2.1 update. I'm going to reboot again.

EDIT: No luck. It won't download the 2.1 update. :( I wonder if it's because I flash SPrecovery before I put 2.0.1 on there. Would the 2.0.1 stock image over-write SPRecovery with the stock app?

Thanks! That's what I ended up doing and it worked. I don't know why the OTA didn't work, but the manual installation of it worked like a charm.
