Hey everybody, I thought I'd post here to get some ideas about this little issue I've been having with my LG Optimus Black...
It's the built-in compass/magnetometer function that's got me a little frustrated. When I first got the phone, using Sky Map was somewhat ok because I could at least calibrate the sensor by waving it in a "figure 8" motion. However, the performance seems to have degraded and when using an app that gives me the raw sensor data (like androsensor or sensor kinetics) the reading I'm consistently getting is well over 160 microteslas! Apparently normal is around 49.
In case you're wondering, I'm careful to keep metal and magnets away from the phone while calibrating or checking the readings.
So, is my sensor busted? In need of some sort of recalibration? Is that normal operation?
