Lol. He mentions it should work for devices made prior to 6/2014, not guaranteed. Handful of devices that previously did not have root now have it and handful where it doesnt work. Idc, but I'd rather not pass off unconfirmed info about the exploit and this device.
 
Confirmed!!! I rooted my cousin's LG Optimus F6 (Model number LGMS500) using "towelroot by geohot", that phone was on non-rooted stock 12b, I just put "tr.apk" in sdcard, checked "System settings\General\Security\Unknown sources", installed "tr.apk"... rooted, then installed latest superuser and busybox from Play Store.
 
I've been looking at this post for about a month. A lot of help from here.
The KDZ things never worked for me
I always got that error (126)
I think?

Anyway, if anyone wants to know
I just used towelroot
It worked as easy as it says
Mine phone came with 12b already from metropcs

I looked into it a bit
out of boredom tried it
trust it or not, it will root this phone

Hiya!

Do you mind linking to towelroot? I want to try it on my F6! It seems to be the most updated root application available that works.
 
I think that "towelroot by geohot" works for firmware 10i too, so should be the easier way to root LG Optimus F6 right now.
I rooted one F6 on 12b using towelroot... someone rooted 10i using it?

Alright thanks so much. I'm just gonna towelroot it really quickly, because I've gotten enough confirmation that it should work. However, anyone know of a workable partitioning method? Because once I root my phone, I just wanna partition it for more memory and then delete unnecessary bloatware

Also is SuperSU necessary? I downloaded it because i read somewhere it was nice to have, but I also have link2sd, which shouldnt it serve the same purpose?

SuperSU is needed to manage root, it's what gives or denys root access to root apps. Link2SD is completely different, it's used to move apps to external SD.

As for partitioning and setting up link2sd, here's the link to the thread with a guide...

Alright, so I think i'm gonna root with saferoot, and then partition with link2sd. After I root and partition, aside from SuperSU and probably Titanium Backup, what are some things I should do? Looking at some forum posts I hear i should use the cyanogen mod? So if there was a link to that, that would be great.

Lastly, if the F6 does get kitkat, will that mess up with my root? Because I know with jailbreaking for apple products, I won't be able to use the update unless I restore the jailbreak.

Don't know where you've been reading, but we don't have cyanogenmod. After rooting there's many things you can do, most commonly installing root apps to enhance your user experience. Everyone has there own list of things they like to do after rooting and varies per individual so I suggest you google or youtube the topic.

As for the kitkat update, we'll cross that bridge when/if we get there (big if).

As always if you don't know what something is/does look through our forums for answers and links and if you don't see the answer then ask. Also don't forget google and youtube are a great source for info.

Sorry about that, I guess I was watching an F3 video on rooting and I saw cyanogen somewhere, so I think I must have assumed it would work with F6's. I guess I'll handle mods later, but is there a certain app to to get rid of bloatware, and what are "root apps?"

So just hoping I could get some clarification on this rooting process.

I installed saferoot, and I'm rooting my phone.
Afterwards, I download link2sd and aparted.
However, when I opened aparted I wasn't given any option for superuser, and I was given an error about not having an sd card.
Creating the 2 partitions with aparted whether the FAT32 is for the pictures, music and typical SD card usage. And the 2nd partition is the ETX4, which is for apps and extra "internal" memory is that correct?
 
Towelroot worked flawlessly on my F6 on 12b. Just wanted to add another confirmation. Thanks for posting this guys. It was so simple and fast it does it in about 15 seconds then reboots and you're done (root only).

How do you know if the root process was successful?

Just wondering, I understand about the 10i and 12b, i'm assuming that's the last 3 numbers and letters from the system information. Mine says 10h, so does that mean anything?

Yes, it means that you have a t-mobile f6. This is the metro pcs f6 forum.

That's great to hear thank you so much. I was afraid that I might have been jipped and gotten the wrong phone.

So I've happily linked, partitioned and rooted my phone. Do you know what I can do with the com.xxxx files? And what I can use to get rid of some system apps?

Lastly, for supersu, is it just me or can you not grant access forever? i only have two options, 15 minutes or prompt.

Any apps that are in the /data/app directory can be moved to external SD even if they are named com.xxx. Apps located in /system/app do not need to be moved, you will not gain internal sd space from moving these. The system directory has it's own dedicated space seperate from the internal SD.

To remove bloatware you can use titanium backup (pro version recommended). I made a debloat tool, but it's for metro pcs only since they have different carrier apps.

Yes you can grant perms always in supersu, it's called "default access". I have mine set to "grant" which will always give root perms without asking. I don't recommend that setting for a beginner though.
