Help Moto G Touchscreen Not Responding

My 5 month old Moto G has a problem.

It was working fine, sitting on my desk, then I picked it up and the touch screen won't respond.

I tried turning it off (holding down the power button) and back on.

I've started it in safe mode.

Still not working.

The LED is flashing and it vibrates when I get a notification but all I can see if the lock screen.

The hardware buttons work but nothing happens when I touch the screen!

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have a Droid Maxx. I never had a problem with it.

About six months after I got it I was in Staples, the phone rang, the three buttons at the bottom of the screen did not work.

I did everything that afternoon I could think of and was planning to take it to Verizon to get it replaced.

To prepare for the exchange I did a Factory Data Reset. The buttons started working again. It has not had a problem since.

Thanks.

I've not done a factory reset but today when I turn the phone one, sometimes the touchscreen works for a few minutes to an hour and then stops working.

Other times I turn it on and it doesn't work from the start.

Does this sound like a software issue?

If you are un-root-ed and did a Factory Data Reset and are still having the problem I would assume it is a hardware problem and you need to talk to the people where you got it about a replacement.

Not keen on doing a factory reset as don't want to lose everything and it appears you need to be rooted to do a full backup.
If you have a PC and its operating system supports MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), then you should be able to hook it up via the supplied USB cable and copy over any photos, music, etc., then copy them back, later, if necessary. (N.B.: I haven't tried this.)

Then I'd try a cache partition clear, first. You shouldn't lose any data, doing that. Then, if that doesn't do it, a factory reset. Certainly that would be better than sending it back for repair or exchange, no?

Once you get it sorted: Henceforth I suggest you look into automated cloud backup of your unique data. I use Dropbox and DropboxSync, but there are plenty of alternatives. Even your own cloud services (ownCloud, BTSync).

No offence intended: But I've never quite understood how people can store reams of irreplaceable data on things like personal computers, laptops, PIM devices, tablets and phones without some form of regular backup in case the things are stolen, destroyed or die.

I suggest never putting any data on a phone that you are not prepared to lose or fall into the hands of your worst enemy.

If you were to replace a phone that is still operable the last thing you should do before putting it into the shipping box is a Factory Data Reset.

Thanks guys.

I removed some apps and it seems to be working fine now, at least for the last few days.

Not sure what the problem was.

I use Dropbox to backup my photos but it was more the thought of reinstalling all my apps, setting everything up, rather than any private data.

Things like by habit tracking, pedometer, gym log. Its not important stuff but would be a shame to lose it.

Can anyone recommend a good backup solution?

Thanks.

Its stopped working again now so did a factory reset and the touch screen is still dead.

Will try and send it back to the retailer.

Thanks.
