my device froze went off and won't come back on?

Hi I have a Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1.
I was on my device visiting facebook and when I went to look at a profile picture the device froze. it would'nt turn off although I did try to restart it. I left it about 15 minutes and the device had switched itself off. I tried to turn it back on but it would not come back on.
I have attached the device to the charger but it doesnt appear to be charging either.
Is there anything I can do before taking it to a repairers?

Leave it on the charger for 24 hours. IF the battery died, the first few hours don't do much charging, they just prepare the battery to be charged.
