Hello Android forums! This is my first android after being a costant iPhone man! Yea I know sorry! But I just bought this optimus M from metro pcs and it came with the 2.2.2 firmware! Is it safe to downgrade this to the rootable 2.2.1? And if it is can someone please direct me to a good tutorial? And another noob question the ROM that people install on these androids are these a custom Operating System? Thanks
http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-m/409145-downgrading-putting-stock-rom.html The roms are customized build of android os. The Cyanogen roms are more heavily customized and differ greatly from stock android os.
Thanks for the link but I'm sorry for asking the same question twice but is it safe to downgrade? I just got this phone last week and one more question is the 2.2.1 firmware more stable then the 2.2.2???
I know you can downgrade using the LGNPST method from 2.2.2. If you upgraded from 2.2.1 but not sure for being on stock 2.2.2. Only way to know for sure is just take chance and see what happens. As for the 2.2.1 being more stable yea I think so. Haven't had any issues with it so far. I have no need to update to 2.2.2 unless they ever figure out a root for it. Hope this helps somewhat
Good, now you can root using gingerbreak (I used ver 1.2, but there may or may not be a newer version). yes the roms are custom versions if the os. Typically, any of 'em should work, but since no phone is exactly alike, you may come across an issue where one ROM will work for one person but it won't work for you, or vice versa. Oh also make sure you apply a recovery, either getitnowmarketing's recovery, it the clockwork mod recovery put out there by the forum member playfulgod. Both work, just be sure to follow all the directions carefully.
Thanks for the heads up! I did use the gingerbreak - root..And I also installed the recovery application. Just not to sure which ROM to go with.
I would reccomend one of the cm7 roms. Bobz rom is stripped down, PlayfulGods rom is full cyanogen build, And reppards yacr is kind of in between.
I concur with undacova's assessment. They are all good builds. Currently, I'm using reppards, but have used all three. They are very good, smooth ROM's. I like that I am able to have gingerbread on my phone (even if it is a mash of gingerbread and froyo components since the official gingerbread hasn't been released for our phone).
with these phones performing the way they do with the froyo components and such, id be curious to see how they do when the stock gb is released and we have gb components to work with lol
