I have a nexus 7 on Telstra's 4g network in Australia. When I got the tablet, WiFi hotspot worked perfectly, could connect laptop and phone to it without any trouble. Recently, I think since latest update to 4.4.2, hotspot no longer works! Its not a carrier problem because I can tether my laptop to my phone on the same network, and its not a problem with the laptop for the same reason. I have searched everywhere, downloaded recommended apps (can't see how that would help but tried anyway), but had no success. Should mention that laptop picks up and connects to the nexus 7 hotspot, but shows connection as limited, no internet access. Help me please before I donate the tablet to my dogs.

Which Nexus 7 is it (2012 or 2013)? Let us know and we will move this thread to the forum dedicated to discussing it.

How are you providing the Hotspot (carrier method or add-on app)?

Its the 2013 nexus 7. When the hotspot was working, it was just through the settings on the nexus. I have tried some apps and different settings but with no luck.

I have this exact same issue. I am also with telstra and have a 4g data sim card. Unfortunately I didn't test on the previous OS to 4.4.2 so I don't know if that worked or not. If you find a resolution please post again.

Just further to this. I have now tried about 7-8 times just in testing by connecting my iPhone to the nexus 7 hotspot. It's worked once. I am using a network analyser App on the iPhone. Pings seem to work reliably. But no Web pages except on that one occasion. Client ip is always the same. Networking details according to the network analyser is consistent too. Strange.

It is a weird one. Annoying too. I'm thinking it was the latest update to 4.4.2 that did it. I can hotspot from my xperia z1 no problem, still running 4.2.2 so not a Telstra issue.

Running CM11 M1 on mine, hotspot works a treat.

Never tried it with vanilla Android still installed. If you're willing to experiment, give CM11 a shot. You'll have to re-do the entire device, but the small tweaks of CM11 make it worth it.

I admit, I only installed it because I'm spoiled by their customizable/arrangeable quick settings menu. And even though it's not a "stable" build, everything works as it should, including hardware acceleration.

Hope you can get this sorted!

You can get customizable quick settings on stock also by using xposed framework.

I changed my APN settings to get this working on Telstra:

    Name
    Telstra.Internet
    APN
    telstra.iph
    MMSC
    http://mmsc.telstra.com:8002
    MMS proxy
    10.1.1.80
    MMS port
    80
    MCC
    505
    MNC
    01
    APN Type
    default,supl,dun,mms
    APN protocol
    IPv4
    APN roaming protocol
    IPv4

All other settings are default or 'not set'

Seems to be stable now.. will see how it goes over next few days

Hi Robbo107672 , please forgive my ignorance - where do you enter these settings? In the Android device somewhere? I am a Telstra mobile customer with a Google nexus 7 2013 having this problem.

Hi, yes under Access Point Names in Network settings.. You may need to create an new APN, but should be fairly straight forward.
    Regards,
