Help Notifications driving me nuts

I installed Handscent in order to customize my notifications. Love that. But.... I get 2 notifications for all email. So, I get the default and the Handscent. I am pretty sure it is not the Handscent as I had it all working fine and then had to do a hard reset and reinstall everything. It was at that point that I started getting the 2 notifications. I know that somewhere hidden somewhere is an option I have missed changing...but dang, I have spent literally hours looking. Tired of it. Any ideas on things to check for?
 
Open the default app, go into Settings, and under Notification settings deselect Notifications.
 
Hmm, that's weird because that worked for me and I use Handcent as well. I didn't change any other settings. Will be interesting to see if one of our gurus has an answer for you. I'm curious now! ;)
