Optimus S on Sprint Site Shows It Ships W/Gingerbread

Chat session:

Jessica: Thank you for visiting Sprint. What questions can I answer for you today?
You: I am looking at the LG Optimus S and it says it ships with Android 2.3. Is this correct?? That would be the same version as Nexux S.
Jessica: Please hold on and I'll get that information for you.
Jessica: Yes, the LG Optimus comes with Android 2.3 version.
Jessica: Is everything Okay?
You: I just purchaced a LG optimus S on or around 6/11 and it has 2.2. Is there plans to update mine or can I return and get the new version?? There is a big difference in the versions.
Jessica: You can visit the nearest Sprint store can upgrade your Android 2.2 version to 2.3.

Why do we have to figure this out ourselves? Why no email? Why do we have to go to a Sprint store to have it done? Why why why?

I called my local sprint store and they had no clue. this is ridiculous. If they can download it in the store they can push it to the device or release it. Im not sure how legit this is . Anyone who goes to the store and they do this please let us know.

Called another store today, they don't know what I am talking about. Did more research and this has been on Sprints site since at least February. In some of the blogs, Sprint states it is a mistake and it will get corrected..........BACK THEN !! Are they going to correct or is this something coming up ???? My head is spinning !!

Typical, Sprint. Left knows not what the right is doing.........sort of mis-leads you..........in no way the leading company (but I am stuck due to work).......they go for service (which sucks) rather than what the people want........the phones and what goes with them !!

When I can, I am done with them.

I contacted one of the local Sprint stores in Hawaii....the dude said it's not available for them to do the update in the store...he did verify the new LG Optimus S have Gingerbread 2.3....so go figure at this point.....I'm jus gonna chill out until all of this is resolved....if the update becomes available then kool & if not then oh, well...but as others in the android central forum have said....they rather keep their rooted phones for now... ;)

It is ultimately up to LG to push the update. They said this summer but it is not looking like it. Although the Optimus line got Gingerbread recently in Romania....that sure does not do us any good here in the states!

So... You can't trust Phone specs on Sprints website... Can't trust the employees in the store... Can't trust the dummy's from CS... WTF Sprint!

Not exactly an incentive to stick.

My GF just left after 10 years for MetroPcs. If Metro had 4g or even 3g here in central CA I'd be OUT!

Sheesh...

Talked to local store today, they knew nothing either, but feel -- as I do -- that if and when it comes, it’ll come straight into our phones, like any other update.

It is in my opinion that we will NEVER see 2.3 for the Optimus S. It has been out long enough and getting out dated fast enough that I don't think we will. We have been promised an update for around 5 month now and nothing. Keeps getting pushed back. Bigger and better phones and tablets are on the market keeping the attention away from the "older" phones. That is just my opinion.

Honestly guys I wouldn't expect it to come any time soon. Until recently I was using a samsung transform (worst phone ever!) and i waited well over six months for a froyo update. And this was AFTER the original deadline passed not just some ambiguous promise. I wouldn't expect anything from sprint unless you own a nexus s

It's not the carrier's fault, it's usually the manufacturer that delays (Samsung and Froyo anyone?).

that is apsolutly true sprint doesnt control when the manufacture releases a update only the manufacture does

as far as the gingerbread update there is no info availiable from sprint yet

Well, I said the heck with it... Went with CM7 (Drew Waltons Ver) and it is so very nice...

Rooted with custom recovery is the way to go so I am ultimately happy now. The only phone Sprint has out right now I like is the HTC EVO. I hear it's at EOL so... I'm gonna wait and see what they bring out in the next couple months.

This Android stuff has me hooked.
