OTA upgrade for HTC Desire - who provides them HTC or the Telecom Company

hi,
i am using HTC desire in Mumbai India on Vodafone sim card.
the unlocked handset is bought from DUbai - UAE. It is not yet released in India.
in this case who would be providing the Froyo update - HTC or Vodafone ?

from my understanding teh carrier releases it to their phones after it gets released to them, since carrier specific phones would have certian things on them that would have to be updated. but im not 100%, you could however root and update yourself, which would likly save you months of waiting.

I thought froyo for desire was delayed due to undisclosed reasons? The last rumor i saw was delay until september, but i dont think its accurate since neither google nor HTC has made any official statement.

I recently met a guy, Anil. He's from Kerala and he has a desire from April. He told me that he has received two OTA updates till date... so he thinks that the Froyo update will be released in India too !

I hold Unlocked T-Mobile Desire, with vodafone sim, in mumbai. I have never receaved any update info. on my phone.. Kindly guide me if any other alternate other than rooting, to update software.

When did you buy the phone?
The last firmware update was released in May or early June... maybe your phone already has the latest firmware.

i got it from dubai - the update i am refering to is Froyo

I was asking skans03 about when he bought the phone.

The Froyo update hasn't been released by HTC yet... lets hope that we get a taste of FroYo soon !

I believe HTC will be the one to push the updates OTA? Any proper /official link explaining this theory?

From what i understand, HTC pushes out the OTA updates to the unlocked or unbranded handsets directly. Whereas, the other phones that are locked to a carrier and have carrier specific stuff on it they would have to wait a little longer as they would get add the update from HTC then add their own bits and pieces.

In summary, if ur phone is unbranded then u get the OTA update over the air directly from HTC.
