Otterbox Defender or Lifeproof

I am one that doesn't ordinarily have a phone case. I have been pretty lucky over the years given the number of drops. I am looking for a new case because I want to take my phone with me during mud/obstacle races so I can track my miles with my gps and take pics/video along the way (I know some might say get a GoPro, but a case is cheaper right now). I am worried with the constant use of the GPS and the use of my phone and possibly internet radio, my phone will get hot/overheated in a case. I do however, want the best protection for my phone from water, mud, and the occasional bump or drop on the course. Any opinion regarding the OtterBox Defender or the LifeProof would be great.

Thanks

Oh and if it wasn't obvious base on the forum group, I have a Samsung S5

I had the lifeproof case on my s4 and it was terrible. Echoes, muted sound quality, and it leaked in the testing phase at my pool after 7 minutes @ 2' deep(returned it for another and had the same results)

I now have the minimal otterbox back-half case and its great.

i have never used either but im waiting for the lifeproof Nuud case to be released for the s5 as it seems to be the best option. If you have a big budget look at the Trident series of cases also.

Otterbox now has the Preserver Series coming out, waterproof (6.6ft for 30 minutes), drop protection, and dust proof. It may be a 3rd option. I had an otterbox for my S3, too bulky for me, my S5 has a Spigen Thin Armor.
