Root power button was being overly sensitive, now can't turn screen off

a few weeks ago (when i was on CM 6.1) i had noticed my incredibles power button was being extremely sensitive. it seemed like whenever i would rotate my phone to landscape it would pop up with the shutdown dialog box (shutdown reboot, airplane mode, etc.) which was very annoying.

i flashed CM 7.0.2 a couple days ago and now the opposite is happening. i cannot get the phone to turn the screen off or show the shutdown dialog (when i hold the button)

for some reason, hitting the power button will turn the screen ON, but pressing it again will not turn it off, nor will holding the button bring up the shutdown dialog. i have to wait for it to time out.

if my memory serves the power button used to be pretty crisp, but listening to it now and feeling it move it's more akin to a worn in (though not worn out) TV remote control. it's spongy, rubbery, and not turning my screen off.

is this something i could have replaced under warranty? i ordered the phone back in june but there was a wait to get it so i dont remember when exactly i received it.

did you do a full wipe before flashing CM7? I was on nightly 39, having problems with the reboot menu popping up out of nowhere/screen turning on/off when i did not think i hit the power button. I flashed 7.0.2 overtop it just wiping dalvik and cache, and everything seems fine now.

i did wipe it when ROM manager asks if you want to wipe and backup. i remember just choosing just wipe because i had just done a nandroid backup from clockwork. i'll try it again since i haven't really done anything that i would lose

well hello, apparently theres a 7.0.2.1 out. now i have to upgrade lol

Might be a stretch, but a while back my phone was having similar problems...

Noticed that with the battery cover off the power button worked just fine. Ended up taking a finger nail file to the cover around the indention for the power button, and it's worked just fine ever since.

i believe i did see your thread yesterday before i posted (i do my research before i ask... most the time lol)

i tried taking the back cover off but i'm having the same issue

flashing to CM 7.0.2 did the trick. the button is working fine now.

maybe i didn't tell it to wipe cache last time, although i'm almost sure i did

i have had issues with rom manager in the past, so i no longer use it to flash roms or clear cache, or even make backups. Sometimes doing it manually is better that way you make sure everything is successful and it really doesn't take any longer to go in and wipe data, cache, and dalvik manually then flash the rom from recovery. Just a thought, i'm kind of anal about things getting done the right way with my devices, and if i do it, then i know it at least gets done correctly. happy flashing!

my power button is back to its old tricks. I'm going to try to get it replaced under warranty once I reflash the stock rom. anyone know where to get a copy of it?
