Probably a ridiculous screen question

Followed the instructions over at xda...

Uninstalled HTC Sync
Booted into recovery mode
Installed the Android USB Drivers from the unrevoked site
Rebooted phone and set USB Debug mode
Ran unrevoked - finds the desire, press OK - Says it is pushing the image and then says it can't and terminates.

Stupid question..do I need to have the phone at the bootloader to do it? I kept it booted normally as I presumed the USB Debug setting was only valid when the phone was booted fully...

Follow the Video directions on this site it will walk you through the rooting with unrevoked. It is very simple to do.

Yup - That is telling me the same as I already tried. I did it again to be sure, nothing....at the point where unrevoked should do something and reboot the phone, it says that it failed and terminates

The only thing I did differently when I did it originally, was that I didn't remove the battery...I told it to reboot from the Hboot screen. So I followed the video to the letter, but it still fails.

Not sure what to do now to be honest.
