I have a LG Mytouch Q which I rooted using superoneclick. Root checker confirms the phone is rooted. From what I understand to be able to overclock a phone I have to install a custom kernel. Am I able to install a custom kernel and also keep my stock version of android? I was thinking about using franco kernel.

I'm pretty sure you can flash a custom kernel with a stock Android image. Some kernels will require otherwise though. I just depends on what the developer designed them for.
