this is a simple question that i need an answer to, thanks in advance.

So i plan on rooting and installing CM7 on my wifes Huawei Ascend M860 from metro pcs, i really just want to remove the bloat and be able to move all apps to SD card to free up space and speed the phone.
i did this before but it took about 4 days running into different problems (thanks to those who chimed in on my questions), i eventually got it but not smooth enough to remember how to do it again with out following the guide step by step.
So, would it be safe to say that all i have to do is root the phone with gingerbreak(one thing i do remember is Z4root didnt work), install CWM following the steps in the Ulitmate Ascend guide, and then just install CM7 following the same guide?
again thanks in advance, all i really want to do for her phone is remove the crap, and move the apps to SD card to help her phone breathe a little, thanks again. oh yea her phone is running on 2.2.2 i believe, it was updated from the metro pcs site....
 
Yes. That's basically all there is to it. However if this is the same phone you already rooted once, you may have issues rooting with gingerbreak again. If so, you'll need to flash back to stock (2.1) and root with z4root, then flash your rom of choice.
 
hey there. now this didnt go as smooth as i thought it would. having trouble root the Metropcs huawei ascend m860 on 2.2.2. ive tried Z4root and gingerbreak 1.1 and 1.2, 1.2 seems to get me closer to rooting the phone than anything else. when i click on root device using gingerbreak 1.2 the screen gets stuck on "rooting device this should take a few minutes( i cant remember the exact thing it says)". i left it like that for about an hour and nothing happens. i even tried rebooting the phone(vol up, send call and power) or even just turning the phone off and on before runnig the app and i still get stuck at the same screen. i had an empty SD card in the phone and i am going to try and reformat the card again to see if that works, any suggestion or links to downloads would be good. thanks
 
You might be able to do it with SuperOneClick. I've never used it so don't know how it works, but it might work. Otherwise, revert to stock 2.1 and root with z4root.
 
You don't need to root to instal a new rom.
Just flash cwm manually and flash the rom.

As a side note, my PC crashed on Christmas Eve and i lost all my work on the revamped guide so it wont be updated with the latest cm7 until I get a new computer.

i didnt know you didnt need to root to flash a new ROM. can you direct me to a link that will walk me thru manually flashing a new ROM, i just need to remove bloat. also, is there a way to root from and SD card and if i downloaded gingerbreak then manually move it to my SD card through my comp would i need something like appInstaller to run gingerbreak?

PPA has been pretty much abandoned since Blast and PG took all of the mods and started their own site.
