I went through the correct steps to root my phone. After updating from the zip file, my phone claimed root was successful.
When I rebooted, it was still running Android 2.3.6.
Any reason why this would happen?
I did everything right. I don't know why it didn't work, although I saw the root successful message.

Rooting doesn't upgrade android os.

Oh. I thought it it did, if I used the SDK manager and installed android 4.2 and everything. Never mind then. Thanks for your help.
So I'm guessing rooting is just the first step to getting past certain restrictions and installing certain usually-restricted apps on my phone?

Yeah i think I got it. In order to upgrade OS, the phone needs to be rooted. Got it!

You can only upgrade the os if there's a custom rom. It if the send out a updated firmware

You know if there's a custom ROM out there for this phone yet?

There isn't yet. We need a custom recovery in order for that to happen.
