Help same 2 phones, but one is much slower! ???

I'm a complete newbie with these smartphones... Bought 2 of the samsung admires (red ones, which I'm finding are not the metropcs ones). One is super fast and showing 3G while the second is showing 1x? and is super slow when connecting to anything. Why is there a difference?? They are the exact same phones, used in the same location. What do I need to do to get the second phone up to the same speed as the fast one??? Thanks in advance for any help!

Going off of what you've said, it seems as if one of the Samsung Admires has an outdated PRL. That seems most likely as to why the phone would not have 3G rather than the 1x. You can try updating the device that lacks 3G by dialing *228 on the phone and making a call. You should get an automated system, which would prompt you to press 5. Hope I helped.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried the *228 but it did not work.
