Slim over door hanger

I got a pack of 2 on clearance for maybe a buck. I got stuff hung up all right, but then I found the plastic hanger thing was too thick to let the door close. Where can I find something cheap and thin enough to allow for door closure? The idea is to hang up 3 or 4 jackets that way.

Yeah, I guess you're right about that. If only I could sand down the door I could probably use them. Meanwhile, I guess I'll look for some metal alternative. Maybe I should buy some hangers, too.

That’s a huge change for a door and it’s permanent. The gap at the top will be irregular and large, comparatively speaking, and the return lip of the plastic hanger may be too thick to allow the door to close…and then you’ll have to gouge out the door molding. If want to go over the door I’d suggest the metal ones, or you can also mount hooks on the door with screws. Or perhaps better, a hook rail on the wall behind the door, because extra weight on the door isn’t that great for the hinges either, and you can use hollow-wall anchors on the walls to make it secure. Holes in walls are easy to patch if it comes out later, not so much in doors.

I found that for coats and jackets (I live in northern Indiana, near Lake Michigan, so I have a considerable amount of both) they are bulky and heavy.
This makes for quite an aggrevation when hanging them up.

My lazy solution, which I have now done for around 20 years, is to hang them over the backs of 4 chairs around a table in my room.

It actually works well, the items make the chairs more comfortable, and as there are four chairs I can organize them pretty well.

My unlined trench coats (like the ones on M*A*S*H*) are on one, my heavy lined field coat is on another, the rain suit on one, and my jackets are on the last one.

I just open the coats around the backs of the chairs.

If they get damp from the weather, this also helps them to dry quickly.

That'd be a great way to handle it. Unfortunately, I don't have even one chair. Right now they're messily piled up on the bed, and between that and the dresser, about half the room is gone.

So go get some!
Goodwill has furniture often.

Two of mine are old school chairs that someone was throwing out.

In my storage container, I have a folding table and four folding chairs.

This would do the same thing.

I wish I had the room. Maybe I'll just hang up the jackets in the closet. It would be a lot handier to have them at the ready.

Well, I got lucky. I went to a different dollar (and a quarter) store and found the rack I wanted in the first place. It kept grabbing my clothes on the way back, but when I returned I just hung it up over the door no problem and now I have six hooks and a door that still closes.
