Help SMS Text Interface Query

Dear All, this is my first time on forum so Hi to everyone. Recently bought Samsung Galaxy Portal running Android 2.1 Update 1.
Here's my first query for which I would be most grateful for your help:
Text Messaging:
I am surprised that the text input area on the SMS interface is such a small box, when there is normally acres of white space above it on the screen. It makes reading back through the text quite difficult. Is there a way of opening this space up or is there an SMS application that displays a bigger text input box, like for example on the iPhone/iTouch SMS app?
Many thanks and best regards,
Knockerwhite

As far as I'm aware the only way your gonna make the input box bigger that I can think of is to turn your phone sideways.

I'm not sure about making the input box bigger but I'm sure someone will suggest that you try handcents.

Hi XplosiV, yes, did that and your right it does help. However, have now downloaded Handcent and this appears to be a brilliant app all round. Also, in the Handcent "portrait" mode, the text input box, although no bigger than the standard app, expands as you type into it.
Am now more than happy with my texting. Thank you for your response, good to hear from you and to know people are out there willing to help.
New question, my Android theme features black screens with white print. Is there a way to reverse this i.e. have a white screen theme with black print?
Many thanks and best regards.

I'm by no means any kind of expert, but there are apps you can get to theme your portal. Me and the mrs decided that open home was one worth trying. It lets you skin the wallpaper, icons, fonts and its fairly cheap and the themes are free, also I think it can use themes made for another app but I can't remember which one atm, but the themes for the other app are like a quid each or something.

I would suggest a backup app... You can get free apps that will not only backup your sms, but allow you to go online and send texts from the web or search through previous sms. Pretty convenient! Check out the market...

I use Laucherpro (free) on my spica, teamed with handcent it makes the phone so much better than standard.

Hi All, many thanks for all your responses. Am now running Launcherpro and Handcent, both superb apps. Will now look into open home and give it go.
Thanks to all.
All the best,
