I decided my incredible need to cool off yesterday in the 100+ degree heat so I decided to jump into a lake yesterday. After about 10 mins of being in the water and unloading a boat I decided to dry the incredible out. Took out the battery and left the cover off for a few hours. The inside of the screen had some white residue in it from the water. After a good soak in 91% alcohol for about 20 mins I let if dry out overnight and it works perfectly fine. I guess this phone is really incredible.

Your saving grace was the water being fresh water and not salt water. I don't think you would have been so lucky if it was an ocean you jumped into.

Dropping it in alcohol is the best step to take after pulling the battery. It displaces the water, cleans the parts, and will evaporate clean.

it's not the water that does the damage but rather the impurities such as salt as in the case of sea water.
in fact when i'm repairing any phone with liquid damage one of the steps i use is to first immerse the phones pcb in a sonic bath with de-ionised water then repeat with a alcohol solution .

the best course of action in any case of potential liquid damage is to always pull the battery as soon as possible this will drasticly reduce the possibility of further damage although some liquid damage such as salt water or any type of soda / carbonated drink will pretty much kill the phone out rite.

My blackberry sat out in a parking lot (completely under water) in a hail storm

I let it dry out for a couple of days and it still worked the day I got rid of it.

Yes, you will have to file an insurance claim to get it replaced.

i don't own anything yet in 338 lapua. The AI actually refers to Accuracy International not AI chambering. My dream gun AX338. Just need to win the lottery now.
