I use a iPad charger on all my devices and a belkin iPad charger in the car, they are all 2.1 amp
Which is double from the normal 1 amp chargers that all/most other devices use.
I've never had a problem with anything, other than then getting charged quicker.
Even on the apple site, if you look up accessories for the iPad, and under charging it will show that the iPad charger us compatible with everything. The iPad and probably some other tabs use a higher amperage, 2.1 compared to phones and most other devices that use 1 amp.
Edit, i forgot to mention that some of the newer laptops have a usb/charging port.
