i have an incredible, that had the OTA gingerbread on it. I followed Scotty85's instructions on how to root.

1. did the initial root, step by step, and it worked fine. was able to download rom manager, titanium backup, delete bloatware, etc.
2. performed the downgrade to 2.2 - worked perfect.
3. downloaded the unrevoked forever tool from his link, ran it step by step. the unrevoked forever app window says "Done". on the last reboot, it boots up into the recovery manager menu. and just sits there. i choose reboot from the menu, and it boots back into 2.2 just fine.
4. i do a reboot while holding the volume down key, and it still says "S-ON"
what am i doing wrong? or what can i do to fix this? i'm stuck with a 2.2 stock image.
