I just discovered that Android 2.1 has universal search! While I was in one of the home screens I pressed the search button and started typing. I was trying to search for something on the Web, but I noticed that the first couple of letters matched a couple of my contacts. I than stopped and did some testing.
While searching from the home screen, the search will match anything on your phone (contacts, texts, apps, etc) and the Web.
