I intend to root my Desire using unrevoked3 (possibly tonight or tomorrow night...). I've flash debranded to a generic HTC Rom (2.10.405.2) and I've got a Goldcard installed but I haven't unlocked the phone yet... Do I need to have the phone unlocked by Orange before I start?

Thanks dude. This whole rooting thing using unrevoked looks really quite straightforward, even for a ham-fisted technofool like my goodself...

Well I just did it and it took about 5 minutes with one click required.

Yah its easy. I originally rooted old style. Took about half an hour or so.

Saw everyone talking about unrevoked and realised.I.knew.nothing about it. I needed.clockworkmod recovery flashing.so used unrevoked to.do it. So very easy

    It doesn't remove anything.

A one-click way of gaining superuser access (plus clockwork mod recovery), *without* losing your data.

But. You will lose data if you wish to un-root.

Rest assured... Easy as 1-2-3. Good luck!

Roottastic! Yup, took me about 15 minutes, but that included sorting out the USB driver, and fiddling about with it etc. The actual deed can't have taken more than 5 minutes. AWESOME! Thanks guys for your help and encouragement.
