Root Update to FRG22D and wait for button root, or go custom ROM now

I just got the FRG22D system update notification this morning. I'm not certain how long I can keep hitting "Install Later" before it forces the update, but I've been holding off in order to keep my root access.

Just wanted to see your guys' advice. Few options I was thinking of:

  1. Install Clockwork recovery to block the OTA and subsequently jump into custom ROMs
  2. Keep hitting Install Later (anyone know how long I can keep this up?) and hope for Easy Root or Universal Androot to get a button-root working
  3. Go ahead and install FRG22D OTA and wait for button-root or use more manual root method when tired of waiting.

I know I have the manual root methods or flashing to an already rooted FRG22D ROM available to me, but I'm particularly lazy :P. In the past I would've been fine spending plenty of time tweaking and playing with this stuff (I put myself through Gentoo linux stage 1 install before to give an idea), but I have of other things to dedicate my time to nowadays.

To give some background info: my intent has been to get to custom ROMs eventually, but I kinda wanted to keep playing with newer stock to get a baseline to compare against. I'm also not the kind of person to keep playing with theme customization, I'm mainly in it for utility reasons (performance, wifi tether, etc.).

I could be very wrong but I don't think 1 click root is coming soon unless a new exploit is found. The current root method is an adb exploit so you need a computer.

Ended up actually following that guide in the above post. Now on FRG22D rooted w/Clockwork intact :).

Congratulations!
It sounds like you were on the same track as me in terms of your needs or desires.

I am a bit curious though...when you say you are rooted with FRG22D...what do you mean exactly?

Did you flash a custom version of FRG22D? Or did you just do the manual root method and obtain root access?

The guide I linked above uses the official FRG22D update file from Google, in addition to Motocache's special update.zip after to run rooting scripts.
