if this isnt right area for this i apologize in advance , but i got the g3 and unlike any lg before , it has me scratching my head, i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to change from charging when hooked up to my pc to mtp , i tapped on the notification like one site said and that didnt work , and i have gone thru settilngs and cant find it, can anyone help , thanks in advance

When you pull down the notification curtain there should be an option to connect as a file transfer media or drive. This just happened to me today and it dawned upon me to pull down the curtain rather than wait on it to connect on its own. Hope this helps...:)

Mine seemed to take forever to connect and when I switch between the four mode choices (charge, MTP, Internet (ethernet or modem), and camera it takes forever sometimes doesn't ever reconnect. Even weirder even though it pops up in device manager, and in my computer as a device(when connected mtp) it doesn't ever come up in the Safely Remove Hardware window. also it says it won't charge unless you install usb driver, sometimes, but other times it does charge (although obviously absurdly slow from a 500mah usb).

This was just with the windows driver though, I haven't tried it yet, but I'm assuming if I download the driver or the LG PC suite, from LG's site these problems will hopefully go away.

I'm having same problem (thats how I got here lol) when I first got my G3 it was working using android file transfer (https://www.android.com/filetransfer/) it worked for few days then it just stopped working, so i remember the LG PC suit can do wireless transfer so thats what im using right now. I'm still trying to figure out why it stopped working? I hate using the LG pc suit

WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS vin619 !

From what I gather,d/l LG PC SUITE also installs the proper drivers.
I can't remember,as I only had the G3 for a very brief amount of time.

Anyway,I had to do something similar w/the HTC ONE M8 & actually had to uninstall the similar program per HTC instructions to use their DEV TOOL to unlock the bootloader.
I believe you might be able to accomplish what you're looking for w/o the PC SUITE,once the proper drivers are installed.

If feasible, can you uninstall LG PC SUITE & see if you're able to connect/view your phone/files without it?

THX! & once again WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS ! :)

I gave up I'll reset and will see if this will fix the problem

Please take this with a grain of salt because I own a G2. But interestingly I was talking to a bro about this very issue and he has both a G2 and a G3. He claimed his MTP was working UNTIL an LG driver installed at which point it broke MTP.

He also has a Mac and was using the "modem" type of connection with it. :dontknow:

Wish I had a G3 to test some of this but not yet. Here's hoping this doesn't muddy the waters, disregard if so.

yea I been searching for an answer for this problem for about two weeks now... there was a guy in xda forums that said he got it to work again but never answered back on how he did it... I've tried installing a new rom from my sdcard and still no luck .. I've tried a full wipe and reset only thing is I can do the tot or kdz method of restoring back to stock to see if that does anything to me it seems something is wrong with the port on the phone itself it just charges and doesn't connect via usb at all I don't get the ding noise when u plug it in or anything from my computer I've tried diff computers and I've tried different charging wires same outcome every time my other phones will connect to my computer and all the usb ports work just fine I've tried them all I don't know what to try next

well I'm sorry for the run on I just want to put this back to stock so I can do the ota. if I do the ota it softbricks the phone I guess cause of twrp or being rooted not sure which is the problem someone help please and I appreciate any help

I downloaded an app of the play store that diagnoses usb called usb host controller I dunno if this has anything to do with what our problem is but it was basically saing I didn't have a driver installed on my phone so the usb port isn't working this is the screen shot I took but not sure if this is my problem

Has anybody solved this problem yet? I can not connect either. I tried on two different computers. No luck. I can use the LG program over my wifi, but not with the usb.

Hey guys ive had this problem on my g3 where i would connect usb to the computer and my phone right away would say something like connected to the wrong charger phone charging slower. It wouldnt let me connect to usb debuging or change to mtp there was no option for mtp i was able to enable usb debug but it wouldnt even make the sound on the computer does tour make the connected sound ? Or any sound at all when u connect it .. The computer should ding when connected and i thing double up if it doesnt have proper driver or somw error if it doesnt do either its the port on your phone ive had this problem and returned my phone now it works fine befor i returned it i opened it and took a screw driver very small one and pushed all the Soldered pins on the board for the usb connector and it connected. That was it

Mine dings once and the phone says it is charging. That's it. Nothing shows up on the computer. I think I made the mistake of installing the LG program. I probably should just have installed the drivers and accessed it like a drive.
But maybe I will take it back to ATT and see if they can connect it.

Thanks

Ok if its dinging your usb port is fine... I would uninstall the lg program and grab just the drivers for the phone and install replug your phone and see if that works.also checknyour device manager with phone plugged for any devices with an exclimation mark and right click and update driver see if it installs the new driver. then if you go into settings goto general tab scroll down to about phone then software information then click build number till it says ur a developer and in there enable usb debug

OK, I am just plain stupid, or maybe I am not.
On every other phone I have owned, all I had to do was plug it into a USB port on my computer and at the most was install the drivers. And up popped my phone on the computer. On this one, I discovered that I had to tell the phone not to charge, but rather to do a data transfer by tapping on the line that told me my phone was charging on the drop down menu. I had missed the last step because I never did that before. It was automatic.
So for me, the problem is solved.

Ok so when u connect usb to your computer u should get a new icon on the taskbar on your phone ..pull down the taskbar and it should say mtp charge and something else.. Does your computer make theusb connected noise when u plug it in?

I was having the same issue. It was the cable. Cheap cable would only charge when hooked to pc.
Got a nice cable from Amazon (w/gold tips) and it works correctly. I can now sync to pc. Go figure...
