Root [Virgin Mobile] Root Flashable MG2 Firmware and /system Update 8/12

to regain root access, download the root from recovery zip from the original guide and then flash it like any other zip

You should then have root access

I can say (at least on my end) that I didn't get the prompts above. I went back to g60's CWM mod from TWRP and it didn't prompt me and I lost Root Access. I maintained my recovery and I'm flashing the Root From Recovery Zip to regain it. But for the most part I think I'm updated now :D

Oh snap, I misunderstood. Yes i tried the factory reset. It didn't work. I meant the flash reset worked perfectly for me. Thanks for the idea though. As it stands i have mg2 build but md7 baseband with no lte. I've got tons of work in the morning so won't get back to this till afternoon. Thanks for everyones help.

I know that to get your phone to reflect the change to MG2, you need the NON-HLOS.bin image from a device running MG2. I don't know where to extract that from a ROM, but the flashable zip that Punk provided only contains a patch as far as I know.

you uh one smart guy but, i already tried that... heh
Well what i did last night was installed the bin file via odin AFTER i flashed the stock rom 'didn't fix it' THEN, i did the mg2 update but. foiled again. A little while ago i tried wipe and install midnight rom as TheBritt suggested, foiled again. So unless someone comes up with a good idea to try i am now testing going back full stock with reset flash counter then, warranty attempt.

P.S. i should have clarified, i installed the bin file from the md7 kies package.

i had similar issues so what i flashed via cwm was punkman outdated odexed slim stock rom. after wipeing manually /data /system /cache basically a full wipe. i was then able to keis restore it to fix my issues. the funny thing is the ota update has not even once popped up yet.

To make a long story short. Now that i am Virgin stock and 0 flash count i called tech support hehe...
Am on a land line with the FOURTH virgin tech who's on the phone with his tech support because after what he just tried, i am not even activated and he can't turn it on... YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!!

Am sitting here with a paper weight and a stinky thumb... lol

I was thinking that within CWM you should do the data/factory reset, clear cache, and manually wipe /system and /data

Then flash this:

http://androidforums.com/virgin-mob...rom-flashable-zip-cwm-backup.html#post5949939

That is a flashable .zip of MD7 before boot, a team effort by TheBritton and Punkmaxx.

Then flash the two MG2 zips on top of that.

I'm no expert, but just another idea I had.

Stock rooted one worked great for me. The second zip looked like it froze but ended up being fine. Thanks for your work!

Tried that too, a couple of times since this all started.

@Jupiter,

I am sorry, and I know you've got your own problems, but I was wondering if there was anyway to just make an updater-script with simply the clearcount.sh and bl files to run overtop a current kernel.

I'd be more than thankful if you could lend me your insight.

I'll look into it this weekend. Car show weekend so time is short but my baby is already clean and ready to go so i'll have a little time on my hands.

On a side note about my paper weight... 7th virgin tech hit it out of the park in less then 5 minutes. Like my neighbours dog, the paper weight is now fixed... hehehe

Thank you!

And, this time, knowing I'm not speaking too soon, I am very happy for you.

well in my case the update kills my lte data side. in cdma only mode it works so i flashed the reset counter / rom file i put together using jup info now i am running keis then i am gonna flash a new modem then recovery. if it still borked ill reset and spend a long time on the phone with vm to fix it.

i know the apns are fine thanks to punk for posting them.
i also know that it was the update the caused the issue every time i was on stock it worked. then the update happened i used punkman odex files. system went weird. flash midnight fixed it somewhat but lte died so now going bone stock to odin the modem file.

last step Customer support with a status normal stock recovery and rom with zero counter.

update: ATM everything is stock again non rooted and 4g working after doing the reset ziip and kies i had to rtn reset and reactivte was able to get my msl from the vm support going to avoid the update for now. or stay bone stock and take it ota.

I have one of the newer one ( the one with "can not mount /sdcard" etc). I'm running CWM 6.0.2.8, on a rooted stock Rom.

I flashed these 2 files and reboot, phone keep vibrating at SAMSUNG, basically bricked.

So I restore an earlier backup, Kies restore, update using the stock recovery, and try to Odine it again. Odin doesn't work ( it get to "set up connection" ) and just stuck there. I think the update blocks Odin.

So now I either have a root, non-update rom, or an updated, non-root one. Any idea?

Would it be possable to make a mg2 basband that we could flash through odin maybe it would stick for some of us that way

Okay I have some what of a question .. I'm running this rom with the mg2 upgrade (my basband is still md7 it didnt switch ) so I went ahead and dirty flashed morphology v5 on top of it cause I wanted some themed settings on it so I flashed and it booted ( I didn't flash any of its kernal tho) and my basband switched to mg2 I was some one content till I noticed my network said morphology and I couldn't send mms (so i had to revert and im back on md7 )so my question hear is why did my basband finally switch when I was on morphology v5 but not on punmaxxs rom ??

@Jupiter, @Punk, @TheBritton, or anybody else who knows:

I am with the guy above me, where I have done practically everything I could think of to get my baseband to switch to MG2 (mine is still on MD7).

I hope there is a way to fix that. I still have a few ideas left, but if anyone knows of a quick fix, please, let me know.

Also, Jupiter, what did that VM Tech have you do to fix your phone?

reset it to stock with the counter flashable zip then kie restore followed by 7 dumb tech to rtn reset and deacvtive and reactivate the phone i think

Can Kies return the phone to a bone stock configuration? Will the Recovery also go back to stock? Is the recovery the main issue with taking the OTA update like it is? Is there where the OTA update fails is when the recovery doesn't match?

confirmed working for odex rooted stock users i had other issue to fix so i used kies to return to stock then abled root and cwm all over again thur odin then flashed the updates

I would prefer to go 100% stock (including my recovery) then do the OTA, then get back on CWM and re-root.

Is this possible? If so, is there a step by step?

All they did was unactivate/reactivate as far as i know, although i think they did more.
