i'm guessing the 4.05 update was a bunch of crap!!! December 21st Verizon said that they where aware of the problems and a update was coming to fix them. I was told by Verizon support that an update would be coming before the end of March. I have gone through 3 Nexus phones and still can't get signal in my house. I have been a loyal customer since Verizon was Airtouch, and I had pager service with them. But I'm done. I'm tired of the run around with this phone.
 
what do you plan to do now? I know some people have been able to swap for another device after swapping 3 phones out. I totally understand and share your frustration.
 
Push them to give or discount a network extender for your home. My house is a cell signal black hole for all networks and phone so I got one and it's great.

i've thought about doing this as well for my home. However i have two issues/questions about this.

1. How does it work? Does it take the low signal and amplify it? Or does it work together with your home wifi to some way aid in signal?
2. Even with the network extender at home this still doesn't help you at all when you're in other fringe areas away from home. Example a friends house, work, anywhere around town where you get bad reception.
 
It works through your home network. Like a VoIP I think. It will hand off calls pretty well whe you leave the house to the Verizon network but doesn't do the same when you come in from a long ways outside (mine work when I'm in my garage, yard etc. doesn't help anywhere but in a radius of the house unit. I don't personally have too much signal issues at least not enough to bother me and I have WiFi in,y home so it was just a phone signal for me. I think the new ones might do both but don't quote me on that.
 
see that is what i was thinking. If it works off of my home network then i have a problem with that too. Because that would mean i'm using my home network that i pay for to make up for VZW's lack of service which is there fault. Anyways that isn't to say that it isn't a good option for some people. So if anyone is thinking of getting one by all means go for it.
 
For me, no one who has entered my home with either Verizon or attcanreliably get data or cell signal. It's just the house or it's orientation etc. I had a Dx before and it was no better, though my wife had same and she had fewer issues. Going outside to take a call was a worse option than a network extender, but that's me.
 
I wouldn't have cared about not getting an update for my Nexus.....except that the official 4.04 came out for the GSM. I understand that LTE/CDMA is a different carrier and needs to add code, but to have no word or any acknowledgement that anything is in the works is a little frustrating. I am looking forward to the better battery and better radios. I really don't have a signal issue but better is always good lol. Again......I wouldn't have cared except an update came out and we didn't get it!!! lol
 
I have never had problem with signal in my house with my Droid X2. Matter a fact we have 5 lines and I'm the only one with signal issues..I'm thinking of buying my contract out in November when my other lines expire.
 
I took mine back and am still waiting to see if an update fixes all the major issues. Also awaiting to see what the galaxy s3 has to offer
 
I bought a Network extender for my Nexus. I was going NUTS with dropped calls, one-way audio and random reboots! The network extender fixed dropped calls in my house, but I was still dropping them other places and still had the other issues. Plus, the network extender was hogging all my DSL bandwidth.

Two weeks ago, I had finally had enough and, in desperation, I unlocked the bootloader, flashed Liquidsmooth 1.25 rom and the 4.0.4 radios.

I have had ZERO dropped calls, ZERO one-way audio and no random reboots at ALL in the last two weeks!!! I turned the network extender OFF and it is still working great!

Sooo......... if they EVER push out 405, you will probably have a phone that behaves a lot better, I personally just couldn't wait anymore.

pretty sad that it is taking this long, I am just glad that i did all the above on Day 3 so my perception of this device is actually VERY good. i did have some data drops (no dropped calls though) on stock. but after putting on the .4 radio and ROM i have not really had a problem with data drops, AND i hold a much better 4g signal than before.

its not for everyone, but if people are really THAT upset about the phone...get it replaced with something else. if they dont want another phone, take an hour out of your day and unlock, root, and flash the new radios and a 4.0.4 ROM. it will most likely cure most, if not all, of their problems.

again, i think a phone should work 100% out of the box...but when it doesn't, you have to do something about it....wether it be replacing it, or modifying it. coming to a forum an bashing the $%$* out of the phone wont do any good.
 
OK so if I go and unlock the bootloader and flash 4.0.4. and put on the Liquid rom. If the update comes out with 4.0.5 next week what will I have to do to update to that, start over?

Restore your stock backup that you make as soon as you root. Then take the ota or wait about a day or two and most devs will update their roms.
 
OK, thanks.....To go from 4.0.5 to 4.0.5 via OTA I will need to restore to stock and take the update.
If I want to do from 4.4.4 to 4.0.5 from the devs, is it the same, or do I just overwrite 4.0.4 with 4.0.5 and the rom stays the same.
Sorry if I seem confused, but all I see if flash it and enjoy.....

Personally my phone is working fine enough that I probably willl wait a week or so more and see what happens with VZW.
4.0.4 seems stable enough....4.0.5 is totally unknown as of now.

You can do either. Myself I'll flash back to stock and take the ota just so I can experience the stock build. Then I'll put a rom on when it gets updated.
 
if you want to go the unlock/Root/ROM/radio method i would probably NEVER go back to a stock locked, un-rooted state.

once you are rooted and have ClockworkMod recovery, you will have the LATEST OTA and other custom ROMs at your finger tips.
in EVERY phone i have ever had, the DEVS have had a CWM flashable file of the OTA on the same day it is available to the public.

if you want to run the OTA, just flash that. usually a data wipe is a good thing to do, so backing up your apps with titanium backup is a good idea.

so you can be running a custom 4.0.4 ROM (like liquid)
backup your user data with titanium backup or some other app (titanium pro is totally worth it if you plan on flashing ROMs a lot)
boot into recovery
wipe data
install the OTA flashable .zip
flash the radios(if not included in the OTA .zip)
reboot phone
restore user data with titanium
and be up and running on the OTA with all of your apps within 30 minutes or so.

switching ROM's for me takes about 30 minutes from start to finish with a full wipe.

IMO, i see no reason to go back to stock, un-rooted just to take an OTA when I know i can just flash it the same day with Less work.
a Rooted phone on one OS is going to be just as stable as the same OS on stock phone. if you dont mess with root access, you wont even notice it is there.

however keeping Root allows you to backup your apps, keep CWM recovery to make a backup of your system, and other stuff that may help battery life and overall performance of your phone.

you don't have to restore to stock and unroot to take the OTA.

you restore to stock -rooted, take the OTA, you will lose root but then you just re-root. It's really not an issue. Through all of this you never re lock the bootloader.

Why are you guys worried about unrooting..? We are never going to get a OTA on this phone !!!!
 
Verizon has told me the update is scheduled for May sometime. Thats pretty consistent. I was told in February it would be March, March they told me any day no later then first week in April, now they are saying tentative date sometime in May. Also was told if I had any other questions I could call Samsung support, maybe they would have a better answer for when the update was coming.. So I called Samsung, and the rep said he has no information on a update...woowoo!!!!!!!

honestly asking a VZW rep about updates is pointless. You would most likely read about it on a blog site before most of the Reps learned about it.
 
I apologize for asking, perhaps it's been discussed, but what is the delay about? I thought by buying a Nexus, we were going to be in Update Central. And I'm not trying to be funny here, but is the delay because Verizon is mucking it up or is it bigger than that?
 
I rooted today. Easy. I installed the 4.0.4 radios and kept the ROM stock (4.0.2) for now. It's not been a day yet but I've been going in an out of WiFi/3g/4g and connection is brisk (as opposed to slow or occasionally dropped). I'm happy. ROMs are overwhelming....too many choices.
