I noticed lately that my stock text message application, is going very slow. On entering the application, screen goes black for 5-10 seconds, loads up each contact, picture, name, 20 seconds later, no lag.

Touch a conversation, 20 seconds of more lag.

LauncherPro installed (Happens with stock Launcher also)
Not in ATK list to kill the application
Happens with one message, or several
Soft reset, pull battery, etc. All preformed. No difference.

I'm not the only one.

SMS Lag - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

Super lag when going to text messages

In this post, a Droid X user actually contacts Motorolla and Verizon about the issue:
Text Lag is Back - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

Has this happened to you?

A big yes for me. Two days ago, I first noticed it. Yesterday morning, I finally decided to do a battery pull and it was stuck on the droid eye for at least 20 minutes. Eventually, it came back to life and has been as fast as it was when I first got it.

I think the culprit might be the official facebook app. I noticed that it would sync even though I had auto-sync off in the power control. The sync symbol would just stay in the notification bar for a while. After I did the battery pull, I made sure I was logged out of FB.

-Using LPP
-No task killers
-Quite a few widgets

Yes, I believe the Facebook app does have something to do with it. If you looked at some of the posts in the links I gave, one DX owner said that he disabled the Facebook App in social networking and it returned back to its quick state. Worth a try

However; someone points out that it may be something more, on day ONE I installed facebook, sync, etc etc. I didn't have lagg untill recently. So why would it take THIS long to lag if its just Facebook? A mystery...

I haven't had problems with the moto's fb app. I've been logged in under My Accounts and there hasn't been any lag in the text messaging. Plus, If I disabled it, I'd lose all my pics for my contacts.

But yeah, are you still experiencing lag? Even after a battery pull? How long did it stay on the red eye after the boot? I definitely understand the frustration with the lag. I counted one time it taking 30 seconds just to open up a text message.

If you go into My Accounts and try to click one of them, does your phone freeze up?

Yeah I am. I havne't disabled any Facebook just yet, because I'm not ready to deal with the aftermath that will happen when I do that... Maybe when I'm more awake and can deal with that.

When I do a battery pull, the restart is very quick, the red eye was as long as it was on day one.
And yes the lagg on the SMS App comes and goes it seems. I wish there was a quick fix :(

I had it bad two days ago as well, had to remove Facebook from the accounts section causing my phone to freeze. It's working better for me now that I've removed facebook and there is not 1000000 contacts on my phone. I'm so glad other people had this issue I thought maybe my phone was a pile. Also if anyone has downloade the new Facebook app, 1.3.2 I believe, if you go into the settings, they removed the contact sync, where it used to say sync all existing or none is no longer there for me. Anyone else?

I've had the same issue. I deleted FB entirely and just use the mobile site, it's just as easy. My text lag is gone with the FB app gone

So is that the cause? I'm noticing it with handscent as well so it makes me think its something other than the SMS apps. Deleting Facebook will delete all the photos from contacts actually in the phone tho correct? I wish there was a way to fix the issue rather than uninstall the Facebook app...

Yes!!!! I deleted my Facebook account yesterday (locked up the phone, had to reboot, took over 5minutes to boot back up) and things seem much better. It is great to not have so many freaking FB contacts as well. You can still download the FB app from Android Market and use it, just tell it not to sync your contacts when you first open it.

It does NOT delete the Facebook photo avatars from your contacts though, which is nice.

Because the phone comes with a Moto FB app, and then we install a Facebook App off the market, perhaps the two FB Apps conflict with each other searching each database and choosing which information to display when loading up the SMS App? Just a thought

I too have experienced this:
My New Droid X Is Suddenly Slow - Android Forums

Here is my situation:
"I have experienced this slowing of sms on the droid x. I've wiped it back to factory and it cleared up, but in a couple days its back to a 35 second wait for a chat thread containing only 7 lines of conversation. Id really like to know what's doing it. I already turned off advanced task killers auto-startup, thinking it might be the issue.

I don't have the nativeFacebook registered (therefore no fb contacts), and removed 100 of 200 contacts from my gmail " my contacts " group so they wouldn't fill up the phone with people and businesses i don't call. Still trying to find a solution."
