Worth updating?

So ive finally got the Lollipop update available for my phone..but the question is, is it worth updating?
So far, ive heard very little good about it..one friend with a z1 compact says its absolutely killed his battery life. Several apps the users are reporting as don't work on 5.0 and above, some of which deal with paying for things or have money stored on them.
Then of course theres the apparent lack of a silent mode, which is an absolute must have for me as I am often in places which require phones be off or silent..

Those things alone put me off upgrading, but the update notification wont go away!

Well 6, almost 7 months on, and I can say no, it wasn't..

Ok the silent mode is back, and apps have been no trouble..but the battery...completely shot..it usually dies around the 50% charge mark now, for the last month or two it started dying about 20% and just keeps getting worse.
And every time it turns on, or turns itself off, the battery meter reads something different. Particularly at the moment, it'll hit ~50% then drop to 0% and turn off. It'll start charging from 0% and up, but when I turn it on, the battery reads in the 50-70% charged range..
I read its a software problem with lollipop, but resetting the phone doesnt do any good now, so im thinking after a couple of years of faithful use, the battery may have indeed had it at last, so guess time for an upgrade!
