Hi everyone,

I used to have a Garmin CS60X navigator, but now with this mega functional HTC-Deisre this is going to be sold on Ebay ;)

I wonder if anyone knows about a HTC-Desire that can be mounted on a mountain bike handlebar.

There are a few on Amazon for the iphone like this one, I wonder if our Desire would fit in also?

My wife has a Iphone first edition, the iphone has nearly the same dimension, the Desire is minimally higher, so the Desire should fit in the iphone cases.

Any experiences?

Did a search and came up with this one which is also made by Amzer. It looks like the one on Amazon but is a bit cheaper at

I just changed from iphone3g to HTC Desire (excellent phone). I bought the Dahon iphone bike mount for my iphone last month (just before I decided to get a Desire) which completely encloses the iphone and still allows you to use the touch screen.

My HTC fits in almost perfectly - some minor modification of the rubber shock pad inside the hard case needed (particularly around the lock button to prevent the phone from locking as soon as the case was closed), but this was easily accomplished with a very sharp craft knife.

Now I can go out on rides again and use the Desire as a bike computer. I don't get access to all of the buttons on the Desire, only the optical mouse (which is where the cutout for the iphone's Home button is) but when I'm riding I don't really need it. And I have the peace of mind that my phone is completely enclosed in a hard case and isn't going to bounce out every time I hit a rut.

HTH,

webby

Edit: PS, my first post and I forgot to say hi to everyone. How rude of me. Hello all :)

Webby - really interested in what you've done here, any chance you could provide some further tidbits of info?

From looking around at the mounts for the Desire, the slickest looking I can find is the Amzer and the Dahon (with the Dahon winning hands-down in terms of waterproofing and mount height). However, I'm a little bit scared about the phone popping out of the Amzer mount on these horrible London roads, and I wasn't sure how well the Dahon modification would go...

* Can you access the entire Desire screen, including the App/Phone/Add section at the bottom of the screen? I seem to recall my mates iPhone screen being a fair bit smaller, and the Dahon video shows the rubber mount coming right up to the edge of the screen.
* Do you reckon it would be possible to modify the Dahon mount to enable access to the back button? (pretty unlikely, but that would make this a big winner for me!)

I tried to contact Dahon a while ago regarding if they have any plans to make this mount for other phones (specifically the HTC Desire), but it seems to have gone into their email black hole...

I to have been trying to find a bike mount for my desire but with no avail they all look like the phone could fly out! But If you did like the look of this mount then you can get almost identical holders on eBay for about a fiver from hong Kong or china. You can bet they all come from the same factory anyway. If I can't find a decent mount then I may buy one of these and put some sort of stap around It for added security at least until someone makes a fully encloses case for the desire like the one in the dahon video.

Well i ended up getting one of these from ebay

it is ok i suppose i haven't relay tested it yet but i have an elastic band going around the movable arms of the holder to ensure the ratchet doesn't slip and open up! i have given the holder a good shake with my desire in it sat in my living room (with some thick carpets under foot!) and seem sturdy enough i will try and get a video up on you tube maybe tomorrow or probably Mon (bank holiday) so you can see what you think for yourself.

link to come soon....

P.S i will include a short section on my new zound air horn i have installed to my bike with a few mods!

I bought this bike mount and it is solid

I looked at a ton of bike mounts and chose this one because of the low profile. I didnt like the high pod-armed ones that some have already shown

This has 2 releases for the Desire. Theres the bracket for the phone thats tight enough the theres no way the phone will accidentally fall out.

And the bracket fits into a 'quick release' on the bike mount itself. So if you have to stop its a quick push of a button. Similar to bike computers you can buy at bike shops.

The bracket also swivels 360 degrees which is really nice
