Phandroid: HTC to complete 2.2 roll-out by Christmas!

Regardless of what have been announced on whatever website we don't know what's going on behind closed doors. I have no doubt there are DINC's out there with the new updates (HTC headquarters). We don't know who's the puppet and the puppet master between verizon and htc. Like the person who posted earlier about a group of tech wiz who put 2.2 on the Incredible surely 2.2 is running on the best droid phones at htc just like the one of threads on this forum where there is a video the incredible with 720p and wifi hotspot. Like with all updates on any phone it's really not a technical problem but more a business deal. Really htc don't have to update the incredible at all or any other droid phone they have and the same with google as they can just focus on the upcoming droid phones. Though the Incredible is a really great phone already (I love it:D) it would be sad if htc and google withold the updates for it.

I'm not here to take away peoples hopes of the updates. I'm just stating the obvious. I've been down this road with verizon in regards with the lg dare where many were waiting for updates to fix the glitches in the phone. Both verizon and lg claimed it's on the way. Sad to say it never came. What dare owners wanted fix and added to the phone was incorporated to newer phones leaving dare owners stuck with what they had.

So for me regarding updates it won't affect me as much if they don't release the updates but if they do release them i'll be a happy customer b/c to have 720p and be able to watch videos on hulu (hulu stopped being stingy) would be great.

That's a bit worrying to me. Droid Eris users thought they were going to have 2.2 and Froyo and six months later, they supposedly won't be getting it anymore. Given the lack of support for the Incredible 2 months later, I doubt we'd get 2.2 if it takes that long.

For Eris, not as much an issue of the update as the relatively very old 7201 chipset. It costs money to chop the OS down to work with those devices and they will not be getting Flash 10.1.

Best way to describe for 7201 chipsets would be Froyo Lite.

I am an Incredible owner, and I came over from an iPhone 3g. With every update to the OS that came along there was usually a list to be found that detailed all of the new features of the update. I have searched for such a list detailing all of the new features to be incorporated in 2.2 (Froyo) with no such luck. For those of us who don't have much of an idea, is there a site or anything that can tell us this information? any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Doesn't the Eris have a 7600?

And TMobile and HTC have said they will be updating the MyTouch 3g to Froyo (which does have a 7201). Probably without Flash, or some other features, but still.

(ok, I'm admittedly being pedantic here :) )

Ok not to be the annoying voice of reason or anything, but it was stated just days past the Incredible release date that all phones released in 2010 would get 2.2 by the end of the year.

While not specific, anyone who has had an HTC Phone running Sense prior to this one (my Eris pals listening?) knows, that can mean the very last day of the year.

It sucks, but rolling out an update with Sense just takes more time. That said, I am sure the developers have learned valuable lessons with the 2.1 update that took forever on the Eris and we will hopefully reap the benefits of those lessons learned.

Also, if history is any indication I would be surprised if we don't see a leak or two prior to the official release and I advise VERY strongly from taking that route if it comes up!!

Advice strongly in favor or against?

What lack of support?

Well, Verizon telling people they should get the Droid X instead. I think they've decided the Incredible has too many issues that they'd rather not deal with. The fact that Seidio isn't planning on making accessories that they were going to make because they want to concentrate on the Droid X instead. And the signal and call quality problem that hasn't been fixed yet (and that I really really hope gets fixed!)

First, their telling people to consider the Droid X probably has nothing to do with any issues except for the unavailability of screens, and the 4-6 week back order. If they get a faction of people to switch, it's that much closer to getting them in stock. And the apparent OTA, that provides 720p video amongst other things, should be clear that they ARE supporting the phone. As you can imagine, HTC has probably focused alot more on production and sourcing problems thus far.

And neither HTC nor Verizon are responsible for what Seidio makes, or doesn't. Do you have a source for that (I'm not doubting you, I just couldn't find anything on Google)?

Hopefully they will get the signal patch out quick, and SHOW that they're supporting the phone.

Unless HTC makes it, they have NOTHING to do with that. And Verizon basically only sells it. Ok, thats slightly simplistic since like any retail store they can guide the manufactures towards what they think will sell (and they will buy).

So this is fundamentally NOT an HTC or Verizon issue.

so if its not verizon or htc's fault that there is no charging dock... who would you say is to blame?

They're not telling people just because of the lack of screens. I was on the phone withe vzw csr for about 30 mins complaining about the battery and in the first minute of the convo he said "Well since you just bought the phone just wait another 7 days and get the DX when it comes out".

I really as though verizon is pushing people away from this phone now.
