why don't you just return or exchange it instead of upgrade?

I drove around to all my local VZW stores the other day and asked them about the status of the X on release day. I got different responses from all of them. I would suggest that you do the same, or at lease call a few and see what they say. I was lucky enough to find a store that added me to a list-- they will hold one for me on release day.
