New member here, old S60 user, few questions

Hi everyone..

I've been using nokia symbian phones since S60v1 was launched., and I have to say this os is a sinking if not sunken ship.. my last phone was their "flagship" N97 and let me twll you that it is a major letdown and the reason I left this brand. I had to move on so android was my obvious choice since I'm not an apple guy.

A week ago I ordered the Desire, and I hope this phone will do as great as the reviews say. I already ordered many accesories for it, like cases, portable chargers and screen protectors.

However I am completly new to this Android OS, I know what is sense, eclair and froyo but not about the details such as apps, etc. So I hope you guys could help me with it:

1. Aside from the android marketplace where can I get apps? I see many websites but they dont look like trustworthy
2. Has anyone managed to sync their outlook 2007 with the desire without major issues? I use my work email a lot when out of office. Is this easy to do?
3. I see people with very cool looking neat widgets on their homescreens, I want these could someone name them?

the market place is the best place to get apps really. It ensures you can keep updating apps, and you also get 24 hours to refund a paid app so you an test it out.

You can setup the phone to receive your work emails, if the work email server has activesync enabled.

widgets are:

audiomanager
this one comes with the phone, and you get get a more customisable one called switchpro widget from the market
batterylife (by curvefish)

I have also recently switched from Nokia (N82) to Android. I used to think the N82 was good but it is totally blown away by the Desire!

The second tool is called 'Power Control' and is an Android widget that comes already installed on the phone. It may or may not be displayed when you first get the phone but is easily added to one of the home screens using the instructions shown on this thread. http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/59664-htc-desire-tips-tricks-read-me.html

i was same, came from Nokia N97 to HTC Desire...the learning curve was no more than a couple of hours

the Desire does everything the N97 'should have', but in a much better way...kind of like comparing an Atari to the PS3

ha yeh I was once a symbian man, back when it first came out, it was so cool even if there was very little you could do with them back then. unfortunately its stood still and other operating systems have raced ahead. Welcome to android
