Considering a Nexus One

So, up until recently I was choosing between the SGS and Desire. I decided on the Desire for a few reasons, partly because the look of the phone, I HATEEE touchwiz, and Samsung doesn't have the best record of updating their phones software.

Anyways, that's history. Now I've been considering getting the Nexus One. The specs are almost the same as the Desire (64mb of RAM shouldn't matter much I don't think) and the fact that it gets OS updates quickly is a huge plus, especially considering how good people have made froyo out to be.

Few questions...

-- If you were in this situation which one would you pick?

-- One of the downsides to the Nexus One I've heard is the media player, so I was wondering if there is a decent replacement one around? I'm used to my iPod touch for media, so anything remotely similar is good

-- I've heard people say that the touch buttons aren't the greatest sometimes. Apparently froyo has improved this a bit, any experience with regards to that?

Well...I DO hope you know that the Desire is a COPY of the Nexus One. Why get a copy when you can get the real thin lol

As you said, they are basically the same phone with a few exceptions, the Desire has a radio, hard buttons, sense and no noise cancelation mic. I would go for the Nexus as it's already updated to FroYo and if you have the Desire, don't expect it to be updated until Q4.

Some good 3rd party media app: 3, mixzing and doubletwist. Doubletwist allows you to sync your computer playlist with the phone.

Isn't much of an issue to me, it was responsive with 2.1 when I touch above the soft icons. With 2.2 it's more responsive but it's not very noticable, since work equals work, lol.

-first one is a though one... i hate touchwiz.. infact i hate anything that is not vanilla android.. but the screen and the gpu power that come along with the SGS is just so cool that i could provably get the SGS.. maybe...

-like th eother poster said there are many mediaplayer replacements, 3 is cool, doubletwyst is good if you come from itunes.

-to be honest, i dont know if froyo fixed the "problem" because just after a few days with the device i got used to the way the buttons work, so i would say that even if theres still a problem, it wouldnt be a biggy of a deal.

If you're used to the iPod touch, bTunes music player is basically the same interface on android. So that'll be the easiest transition for you.
But just check out some media players, you might find one you like even better.

I'd definitely pick the N1 because of the Android updates, because it's better looking, has the 2nd mic that helps alllooot, NO damn sense..., and probably more..

I would like to know what's wrong with the vanilla music player? It plays music, has random song option... what more do you need? lol

The capacitive buttons work great, you just have to press a bit higher than they are drawn... I don't remember when was the last time I missed one.. YouTube - Nexus One capacitive buttons

If you're used to the iPod touch, bTunes music player is basically the same interface on android. So that'll be the easiest transition for you.

I actually like sense (minus the delayed updates), but since Android is so customizable I figure I can live without it.

As for the music player, there's nothing wrong with it, Im just A sucker for a pretty interface, and I'm not overly fond with the stock one.

Get the Nexus One. Touch buttons are fine, btunes for music and as people say it's better looking than the desire. Updates are also faster and as Google improves Android, Sense becomes less relevant.
