Hi!

I already bought my Sony Ericsson X10 mini and I like to hear some advices about apps and games, and also some tipos:

- What GPS should I install (do you advise to install maps in SD to not use the 3G when using the GPS)?

- What applications do you use to synchronize contacts and calendar from Outlook?

- Which application do you advise to "kill" memory from time to time?

- We can install applications or games in SD? (If yes, what are the differences in installing in memory or in SD?)

- What are the best games to play in X10 mini?

Thanks for the help :)

Hi

The screen is too small to use for turn-by-turn navigation while driving in my and others opinion.
So, if you just need to use the GPS to see where you are and a few blocks around you I think google maps is ok.
But do keep track on how much data you're pulling from the net and I would've preferd a good data plan. (and the app called "Call Meter NG" to show you how much data you've used).

Another tip is to use XGPS, it downloads maps from google maps so you don't need to use the data connection (first to your pc, then transfer it to your phone).
This takes some time as the data files are HUGE (so you'll have to just download maps from a small area).

Not sure if TomTom works on this small screen? Anyone tried?

Regarding outlook, the phone comes with it own software for that.
(Roadsync Calendar and RoadSync Mail)

Most find that killing apps manually doesn't do any good.
I'm using Advanced Task Killer Free.

No, you can't install to SD, this is not the phones fault but a limitation of Android 1.6.
You'll have to wait for either a root hack or a firmware update from SE to fix this.

I'm no gamer, but Peggle which comes with the phone I find very amusing.
Labyrinth Lite and Abduction! is two other games I've installed but not using that much. What I find myself using most of the time is Klondike (Solitair card game).

Don't bother with a task killer. Let Android manage its own memory. I have found (by running tests) that a task killer actually decreases my battery life. Android keeps certain applications cached so it can access them quickly the next time you use them. While they are sat in the background they DO NOT consume battery or CPU resources... Android will kill apps when your memory level gets to a certain threshold and even then you won't have noticed any reduction in performance ;)

...even then you won't have noticed any reduction in performance ;)

My experience is that the screen rotation is more snappy with less apps "available" in the background.
Also the phone becomes more responsive with less apps "cached" by android in the background.

Only my experience...

I guess I'll just delete the apps that I don't use, so they don't need to be handled by android.

Xpgs is the first hit if you google it.

Anyway, here's the link xGPS
You should be able to figure it out from there (it's easy)

EDIT
Wops, sorry too triggerhappy there - I mixed up between the ipod/iphone app.
But I think it's beeing ported to android soon.
I've just tried too many apps lately on both plattforms, sorry for the mixup.
