photo contacts question

I tried setting photos for my contacts today, but it seems I can only add photos for my email contacts and not my sim card ones? It's only my contacts on my sim that I want to add photos to!

Am I doing something wrong? Or is there a way I can do what I want to without adding everyone's email address?

On every other phone i have had, the only way was to transfer your contacts to the phone from the sim card.

Why have people assumed I'm trying to save pictures onto my sim card? I'm not daft enough to try doing that, I just want to assign pictures on my SD card to my sim contacts! Just the same as when you assign individual ringtones to a contact, it's not as if the mp3 is moved to the sim!

Not sure why I would need to transfer my sim contacts onto the phone first but I'll try that first. It's just odd that for some reason it won't let me assign a picture unless I have emailed them before...

Also, what's the best size I should make these contact photos?

Right, I've copied all sim contacts to the phone memory, and now it does let me assign pictures. Thing is, now I have two entries for each contact, one on phone and one on sim! How do I stop the list from displaying the sim contacts? I have disabled them in the settings on the people screen, yet it still displays them in the list when I press the phone button.

I guess I'm going to have to resort to deleting them off my sim card, but it should be possible to literally just hide them...

Haven't come across a hide option, if you are worried about losing your contacts, i think you will find you can put them on the sd card instead

When you "assign" a photo to a Google or Phone contact, you are in fact saving a copy of the photo within the contact storage area. When you move that contact to another phone, it takes the photo with it.

The same is not true for SIM contacts, and you will notice that when you switch from creating Phone contacts to creating SIM contacts you get a thumping great warning that informs you that some fields will be lost. The photo is one of these fields.

MP3 (or other ad hoc kinds of music) files are not saved in the contact storage area. I can think of a few good reasons why this is the case: for example, sound files can be arbitrarily long and come in numerous formats that may not be portable between phones.

Just go to people app, then Menu -> View to hide.

Like I've said, I already tried that. The only way they would no longer be visible is if I delete them from the sim card. Got them all saved to google contacts now, a bit uneasy about them all being on the net but at least they'll transfer over to my next android phone with no fuss.

That method only hides them in the people application. There is no way to hide them from phone or messages. You are right that the only way to hide them is to delete them from those places.
