I got my HTC Desire few days ago and was trying to connect my school portal but it won't let me do so. Usually when click on school portal, there will be a box pops up and require you to enter username and password. However, everytime I use my phone to connect that site, there is no box pops up so I can't fill in username and password, then it goes straight to another page showing error HTTP 401.2. If anyone knows how to fix the problem, please reply because my laptop's screen is broken and the only way to use internet in my school is via my phone :(

Thanks for reading

Try installing DolphinHD browser. It might work better.

Thanks for reply. I have tried Dolphin browser HD and opera mini but neither of them work.

Here is my school site: Blue Mountains Hotel School

bmihms = Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School in Australia. It has no virus so.

After type that site in, click on "click here for your new portal to your future", and see whether you guys have same problem or not.

Thanks for reading.

Firstly, let me say I'm no expert so could be completely wrong.

The url you're trying to connect to (http://portal.bmihms.nsw.edu.au/) is not a secure site in the accepted (HTTPS) sense of the term. It is however hosted on Windows IIS and appears (from the pop up) to be using something called Integrated Windows Authentication for err, authentication. Most, but not all, browsers support this. So I'd guess the default HTC browser and Dolphin don't.

Thanks. Actually I don't really know how to call that type of site in English, so I call it randomly and hope people may understand. As I said, I've tried Opera as well. Opera works perfectly on my PC laptop but gets the same problem on my phone

So if anyone knows how to make it work, please help me out here!!!!!

If someone is able to log into a secure site it is probably using forms based authentication (i.e. you enter your credentials in embedded web based form fields). If a site utilizes Windows Authentication which is popped by the OS/Browser when accessing the web site Android has a known issue with Integrated Windows Authentication in a browser.

This is an android issue so until android fixes it I doubt the Server will change their authentication method because other programs will rely upon it.

The problem about windows authentication on android default browser remains and I dont know why. Firefox is the solution, support windows authentication, but it is too much slow. To pass one folder to another in a sharepoint site it takes more than a minute. I tried safari on Iphone and it is very very very fast.
