In the interest of science, for posterity, and just for fun, I reinstalled almost all of the bloatware into /system/app (even Blockbuster, but not NFS Shift - I forgot).
Then I first killed root access by reinstalling the .604 update from the SD card. Rebooted and DX was fine, but apps that require root (wifi tether, screenshot, etc.) didn't work.
Then I ReDeRooted further by gaining root and then removing /system/app/Superuser.apk, /system/bin/su, /system/bin/busybox, and finally /system/bin/rootshell.
Then rebooted, and DX is still fine.
Anyway, my "best ever" Quadrant score with or without root was 1313, and usually below/around 1270 or so. After rebloating and unrooting, first run of Quadrant was 1291. Subsequent runs have been in the mid-to-high 1200's.
