Orange Dolphin Terminology

Definitely good advice by anoniemouse, get a fully unbranded / unlocked one from CPW.

Dolphin includes 500MB of 'inclusive' mobile data. That means once you go over 500MB (according to the T&cs) they start charging you the flat daily rate for data.

Orange - pay monthly Animal plans terms and conditions

I started off on Dolphin 30 but switched to Panther 30 as it included unlimited (750MB fup) data and 50x picture messages for the same price, only losing 100 minutes in the trade-off.

Its all ordered up now through Carphone Warehouse. Hopefully get it on Friday. It could be famous last words but I dont think my web usage will be that high so 500mb should cover me nicely. When at home I will use my wifi if needed.

Glad I spent some time here tonight though as there seems to be a myriad ways of wasting your usage through inadvertantly being connected. Will need to take great care when I am using it at first and make sure I have the settings correct.

cheers

I have wifi at home/work and my usage last month was around 60MB (I don't use it on the way to work though). I turned wifi off at work this month to test my usage and I'm upto 70MB in two weeks so not too bad I think.

When you get the handset grab '3G Watchdog' from the Android Market (free) and that will help you keep constant track.

This was covered on another thread yesterday. In the market on orange there is an app called 'your orange' and it covers your data usage every time you care to check it. Works a treat.

I use Your Orange but it only shows calls and MMS because data and texts are unlimited on Panther (750Mb/3000 text FUP). I assume data would be shown on other plans where the limit is 500Mb then a daily capped charge thereafter?

3G Watchdog is better in my opinion because you can see your daily, weekly and monthly usage at any time. Plus, if you enter your billing date (when your allowances reset) it tells you how much data % of your allowance you've used so far this month, and what the expected total you will use this month based on your average usage since last month.

Correct. It shows on my 500 mb plan. As yours is the bigger plan then that's perhaps why it does not show.

After all my research I just got an email to say its out of stock. They hope to have it in in a few days but if not then the order gets cancelled after 7 days.

I can last for a week I suppose but it'll be a long drawn out time and I have no doubt I will be a crabbit humph. Guess I will keep researching alternative deals just in case.
