PDANet Mac/Tethering Issue

Before the update from 1.5, I had no issues tethering my MacBook through my Droid Eris with PDANet. The phone function of the handset was the only operation that would interrupt the signal.

Since the update, my Eris interrupts my internet frequently, without apparent reason. It begins the annoying cycle of kicking me off the web, alerting me that the phone was not ejected properly, mounting, launching iPhoto (which I cannot prevent from happening), and then I have to exit PDANet and relaunch so I can reconnect. It's a juggling act! Sometimes this cycle will repeat five or six times before the phone and computer settle down.

What is going on here?

PS- I know the majority of Android users are PC advocates. I use Android because switching to AT&T to get an iPhone is impossibly expensive. ANY replies to this post that imply my problem is owning a Mac WILL be reported as abuse. I love Android and I love Apple and I love the 21st Century. I just want a solution to a simple problem, and I don't want any lip for owning a computer I ENJOY using.

Wow, that seems to help. Gee thanks.

This might help your issue;

You might want to consider rooting and using WiFi tether. I've used it with no issues.

How does VZW feel about you tethering? Have you reached the 5gig "limit"?

I agree that wireless tethering seems to work well with my MacBook. I really don't know what could be causing your issues though. Have you tried using a different USB port or maybe a different USB cable? A bad connection would probably cause similar results.

Also, if you go into iPhoto, you can go into preferences ---> connecting camera opens ---> nothing.

Hope that helps a little.

There is no 5 GB limit. People go over all the time and are not billed for it.

What version of PDANet are you using? Make sure it's the most up-to-date because last I checked, they added fixed some OSX issues within the last two updates.

If all else fails, and you still want to use the app, I would say boot up VMWare and run Windows and tether that way. It's long-winded, but...if you absolutely need tethering and it's not working for you, you might have to.
