If i exchange my droid due to battery issues - will I have to reinstall everything?

With low use - screen at almost 0, pandora for less an hour, browsing for less then an hour and some mild txting/emailing, my phones about to die. I rarely get 8 hours of use like this. Screen times out at 15 seconds, all GPS, WiFi and BT off......all the tricks and tips.

I am thinking of exchangin it, but i really dont want to have to re-install all my apps and widgets, input all my contacts and re-set everything up like I have it. ive had the phone since day 1, and have spent a ton of time tweaking it how i like it.

Is this info stored on the SD card so it can be easily swapped over to the new phone?

Exchange it today! Seriously! Like now. You'll be so much happier. I was having the same experience you were. With pretty heavy use I was getting like 4 hours. With moderate use I was getting 7-8 hours. And with almost no use I was getting like 11-12 hours.. I probably would've just put up with it because I have never had a smartphone before and I figured it was pretty normal. Then after reading reports on here of getting up to 2 days of battery I decided to exchange. I was having the same concerns as you. I even had put a phantomskin on my old phone that I didn't want to part with.. but I'm so glad I did. As long as you have your account set to back up, it should redownload all of you apps automatically, save your contacts, and even change your wallpaper. The weird thing is, I factory reset my old phone just to see it work and it was amazing. Did everything in about 3 minutes. However when I got my new phone it didn't redownload my apps... ? I'm not sure why.. my background and contacts all came back. They let me keep my sd card too so I lost no media. It really wasn't much of a hassle to download all the apps again they dl so fast.. but you do have to redo most settings which is a little pain. I've read about apps that back up everything on the sd card.. might be worth checking out?

Ok, how do you set it up to auto save?

i guess I'll be doing that then soon.

*edit* found where to enable auto back-up. already was enabled. does it back up to gmail? what exactly does it back up? all data on the phone? contacts?

and what build date was your new phone? mine is currently a 31/09 i beleive. or whatever the earliest one is.

Before you send your phone back....

Let the battery completely drain a couple of times, sometimes they need to recycle a couple of times.

From the market, download Advanced App Killer and use it.

I had some of the same issues, but it could just be a matter of turning off the stuff you don't need. It really worked for me.

Backup your apps to SD card and swap. There are some backup apps out there. Astro has a backup app built-in.

Been there done that. Did the power cycle trick, tried task killer....been on the forum since day one so i know everything to try.

Task killers will do absolutely nothing for your battery. Return the phone if you want. Although the replacement will probably behave exactly the same as your current Droid, your mind is already made up that a replacement will provide better battery life.

Its commone for smartphone batteries to take a few charging cycles to condition themselves. Taking the phone back after "a few days" of short life is premature. Your 2nd battery was just further along the line than the first.

I know this, so i have uninstalled ATK. And "my mind isnt made up already". Im going by peoples accounts that they are getting SUBSTANTIALLY better battery life then me.

im having the same problems...twice a day atleast..i barley get 7 hours with minimal use. so far today i havent used it at all..kept it sleeping and in 2.5 hrs its down to 80% does that sound normal?
