Does Google Voice take forever to get a voicemail on your Android phone?

So I set up Google Voice on my Sprint Hero and I'm not all that happy with it. The main problem is it takes roughly 3 hours from the time the person left the voicemail until I receive it on my phone. That's just way too long. And I'm not talking just the transcription, I mean even getting the voicemail.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a Sprint problem, a Hero problem, or a Google Voice problem?

Thanks,
-v

I have Verizon and I have had GV on a Droid, a Incredible and now my Droid X and it has always worked great...best voicemail app I have had and always fast unless Iwas in an area that had poor reception.

Hmm... I wonder why I'm having trouble. Maybe it's the phone (a Sprint Hero). I wonder if Sprint can help out, although they won't want to help fix a Google application issue.

Can I unstall and then re-install? Will I loose all my voicemails? That may not even do anything.

Thanks,

Your voicemails will always be there when you sign in to your GV account.

Oops, I feel a little silly about this one. I think the reason I'm having the problem is because I turn off data for most of the day (to save battery). I think Google Voice needs data to be always on for it to work (or at least to receive the voicemails on my phone).

I'll keep my data "always on" for the next few days and see if that solves the delay in getting Google Voice voicemails.
