Change HTC lock screen

I really hate the HTC slide down lock screen, It always answers calls in my pocket. Is there a way to get rid of the HTC slide down lock screen and use the default android lock screen that you slide to the side. I'v seen apps like Lockbot and WidgetLocker, but you still have to use the HTC slide down lock screen when answering calls.

I know that Widget Locker has an option to change the lock screen from an HTC look screen to a Froyo look (slide from left to right to unlock). And I believe it also has an Iphone look, but don't hold me to to that.
What I can't say for SURE is that this is the lock screen you see when the phone is awoken by an incoming call. I would THINK that the lock screen you chose would hold true, but maybe not. I played with widget locker for a few days on my phone, but I used the HTC look screen because by now that's the way I expect the lock to work. If you've tried it and know for sure it doesn't work that's cool. But if you want me to activate it on my phone and call myself let me know, I'll let you know if the lock screen stays as I've selected.

I haven't actually tried WidgetLocker, I just heard somewhere else that it still goes back to the HTC slide down lock screen for incoming calls, but I'm not a 100% sure either. Thats how most of these lock screen apps work so I didn't really want to spend money on it if I'm not sure. If you already have the app, that would be awesome if you can try it out for me and let me know, but if not, don't worry about it. Thanks!

I feel exactly the same way. The slide down lock is way too easy to unlock. Unfortunately, the only solution I've found so far is rooting and using a custom ROM with a different dialer.

It's pretty easy to get the vanilla lockscreen working on almost any ROM. But, like the apps you mentioned, it's strictly the wake/standby unlock screen. You're still left with the crappy HTC slide down to answer on incoming calls on most sense-based ROMs.

On my Eris, pressing the "menu" button will also unlock the screen. That makes it very simple. I just use my thumb for the power button and then move it over to the "menu" button--much easier than swiping.

I don't think you get what the OP is saying. He's saying that the "swipe down to unlock" is too easy to perform by accident. This is causing him to accidentally answer calls when pulling the phone out of his pocket.

Update -- I just went to WidgetLocker's website. This is one of the features listed:

• Options to have WidgetLocker ontop of SMS popups or incoming call screen

So, this might be worth looking into as a solution. I just hope it doesn't lag like the other lockscreen replacements I've tried.

Yeah, I emailed the developer of WidgetLocker and he explained how changing the incoming call screen is much different then changing the lock screen. So yeah, he told me about this feature to prevent pocket answering. Sounds like the best solution so far without having to use a custom ROM to change the call screen. Sounds good so I'm going to give the app a try.

On an incoming call the normal HTC lock screen comes up for a second or two, then the Widget Locker lock screen lays over the top of it. After that to answer the phone you have to unlock both the Widget Locker screen and the regular HTC screen. So yes, it will make it harder to pocket answer incoming calls, but only after the Widget Locker screen lays over the top of the regular HTC screen. So I guess it depends on how quickly you can pocket answer...

Alright, thanks for trying it out for me and letting me know, I'll give it a try.

I also found two other apps, myLock and Todd's Droid Tools. They both can disable the incoming call screen and make it so you have to push the scroll/camera button to answer a call. But the downside is that they lag pretty bad. When I hit the button to answer a call the phone would still ring one or two more times and the person on the other side could hear it. So they don't work all that well, but hopefully they can fix the lag issues soon. For right now WidgetLocker seems like the best solution.

Could it be the physical send button that is causing your phone to pocket answer? I know that was my problem, and I don't pocket answer now with my DINC which doesn't have a physical send button but the exact same lock screen.
