I was hoping it was the newer one. Sorry for the post!
I just got the system update message. I didn't install it, wanted to check to make sure it was good to install. Is this the same update or is it a fixed one?
So is the frg22 that a lot of roms are being built from and we have been installing the same? The reason I ask is because it seem looks as if FRG01B is what is being sent out.
I was hoping it was the newer one. Sorry for the post!
Wrong. The update pushed out to me and a few others Saturday is a different one than was pushed out to users last week. This one updates All Eclairs to FroYo - EDS20 all the way through ESE81.
It's the one I posted about in a thread, that I got Pete to help me confirm that it could do this for all versions of Eclair - and that he later posted about in his blog.
See my post here: http://androidforums.com/all-things...d-smoked-glass-got-new-notifcation-today.html
And Pete's blog here: Peter Alfonso
It's the same exact file
According to John Galt, this is the same build, but instead of just patching the files ins /system, it completely rewrites /system.
I'm still trying to figure out why this isn't bigger news? It seems to me that the biggest problem was that the files were being patched and this just rewrites them.

Its actually not even that file that rewrites the whole system that is going out now. Its the same file that originally went out and is in the guide for forcing 2.2 that is currently going out. The file that john posted that just replaces the entire /system is probably incase there are any users left on 2.0 or 2.0.1 because the updates from 2.0 to 2.0.1 and 2.0.1 to 2.1 are no longer on googles servers so they are no longer available OTA.
Realistically there is no way they made changes to this file since they last pushed it. For one its the exact same file size. Two its the exact same file name. The biggest thing though is if it was different then the people that got the update originally would just be screwed. This update like the last one is FRG01B from ESE81. In other words you have to be on ESE81 to get this update.
That seems really weird that they would be pushing two different FRG01b updates. Of course, it is really weird that the original update wasn't fully tested to begin with. Well, I will just continue to wait for my OTA notification and hope that it doesn't screw up my phone like it has for (what seems to be) everyone else.

Has anyone md5'd (or equivalent) the previous FRG01b and the one being pushed out now? That may be a better way to tell what was, if anything changed.
The OTA that is currently being sent out is FRG01B. FRG22 was a leak from motorola. At this point we really dont know if FRG22 will ever be sent out OTA or not. It could be that Motorola and VZW decided that FRG01B is the final froyo update but who knows at this point.

Verizon Wireless promised that it would deliver Android 2.2 Froyo to the Motorola Droid beginning the week of August 2. According to a company spokesperson, it targeted a small number of users first to make sure the update worked first. There must have been a few kinks, because the update wasn't pushed to the masses until the early morning hours of August 11. The update can be installed over-the-air directly from the handset. Users will be notified when the update is ready.
A manual update for the Droid, build FRG01B, was made available via non-official channels last week. Though that update works, it is not the final version of Android 2.2 being offered to the Droid. The final software version is build FRG22. If you updated your device manually to FRG01B, make sure your device eventually updates to FRG22.

I think the reason they are pushing two is to save bandwidth. The one that most get to go from ESE81 to FRG01B is around 45mb. While the other than can take you from 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.1 to 2.2 is around 75mb. They only want people that absolutely need to get the extra 30mb to do so. If it wasnt to save bandwidth I see no reason that everyone wouldnt get the update that rewrites the entire /system instead of just patching it.
the one i got this morning (12ish) was around 76mb. I had forced 2.1 when it was out and FRG01B as well, then rooted to FRG22 a couple days ago. i tried installing the ota update but nothing happened (obviously, since im rooted). im not sure if it's too late to get it off my phone or not.
read that info Week post again.
They are not saying you're getting FRG22 now. They are saying that the final, when it comes out is going ot be FRG22, and to make sure that when it comes out that you grab it as well.
