appears to be the same update. Its got the same filename and is the same size as the last one. Also the same location on googles servers

So is the frg22 that a lot of roms are being built from and we have been installing the same? The reason I ask is because it seem looks as if FRG01B is what is being sent out.

The OTA that is currently being sent out is FRG01B. FRG22 was a leak from motorola. At this point we really dont know if FRG22 will ever be sent out OTA or not. It could be that Motorola and VZW decided that FRG01B is the final froyo update but who knows at this point.

Maybe they fixed the issues and rolled it back out. I know, I KNOW, "if they did that the number would change blah blah something more speculation.
BUT, they DID just re-release a baseband with the exact same name and when compared 1 to 1 they were NOT the exact same file.

Thanks for the post. There has really been no info on the OTA updates on the forums (that I can see). Everything is about the manual install which I have no interest in doing.

Wrong. The update pushed out to me and a few others Saturday is a different one than was pushed out to users last week. This one updates All Eclairs to FroYo - EDS20 all the way through ESE81.

It's the one I posted about in a thread, that I got Pete to help me confirm that it could do this for all versions of Eclair - and that he later posted about in his blog.

I'm still trying to figure out why this isn't bigger news? It seems to me that the biggest problem was that the files were being patched and this just rewrites them.

Its actually not even that file that rewrites the whole system that is going out now. Its the same file that originally went out and is in the guide for forcing 2.2 that is currently going out. The file that john posted that just replaces the entire /system is probably incase there are any users left on 2.0 or 2.0.1 because the updates from 2.0 to 2.0.1 and 2.0.1 to 2.1 are no longer on googles servers so they are no longer available OTA.

That seems really weird that they would be pushing two different FRG01b updates. Of course, it is really weird that the original update wasn't fully tested to begin with. I think the reason they are pushing two is to save bandwidth. The one that most get to go from ESE81 to FRG01B is around 45mb. While the other than can take you from 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.1 to 2.2 is around 75mb. They only want people that absolutely need to get the extra 30mb to do so. If it wasnt to save bandwidth I see no reason that everyone wouldnt get the update that rewrites the entire /system instead of just patching it.

Well the one I got this morning was the 45m one and I really wish I hadn't updated. My phone is way slower than what it was before. I want to take it off and go back to 2.1.

Thats wrong plain and simple. I cant tell you how many people have gotten the update today and contacted me. The update thats going out is FRG01B. Its also wrong that the manual update was not official. That update was taken from googles servers and the reason we knew the file name was because multiple people got the update OTA. Believe informationweek.com if you want but I have actually checked the md5s along with another user doing the same. The update from last week and the current update are the same file. Ask anyone who got the OTA today to check their build numbner. It will be FRG01B unless they have changed what OTA they are pushing since this morning.

Like I said in the other thread, Information week is obviously wrong. There have been a lot of people on this forum alone who have gotten the new update and it's still FRG01B. No one at Motorola or Verizon ever mentioned anything about FRG22 so it could be that it was an old version or something they scrapped and just went with FRG01B. Like OMJ said, the MD5s of this update and the update last week are the SAME, so they're the exact same update that we did manually last week.

the one i got this morning (12ish) was around 76mb. I had forced 2.1 when it was out and FRG01B as well, then rooted to FRG22 a couple days ago. i tried installing the ota update but nothing happened (obviously, since im rooted). im not sure if it's too late to get it off my phone or not.

The only people I have talked to that are getting the 76mb update are rooted users on FRG22 based roms. This is probably because FRG22 isnt in the system so it decides you need the update that totally rewrites the system.

They are not saying you're getting FRG22 now. They are saying that the final, when it comes out is going ot be FRG22, and to make sure that when it comes out that you grab it as well.

Yeah, but they make it sound like if you installed the one last week it was unofficial and this new one today is the official one. They're saying the official one is FRG22 which it obviously isn't, so it leads to confusion. I don't understand how anyone even knows FRG22 is the official one. It just appeared out of nowhere, and then there was the PDF, that's it.
