Help Stock music player not closing

I am almost sure that before froyo, when I was playing mp3s via the stock music player, that when I exited that screen, the music app closed. It no longer closes when I back out of it. And there is no exit or quit option. Is force closing the only way to stop the dang thing? Surely not. I must be missing something.

(no...I don't use a task killer. I have the icon for running services and I close it from there )

What do you mean it doesnt close when you back out? Just hit back or the home button to exit. Yes, it will still be cached in the background, but it wont be running.

Yes, this has always been the behavior. If you're trying to stop the music from playing after you back out, you need to hit the pause button for that song.

I actually does run when you hit back go go home - it continues to play music and shows up as a running app.

Thank you. Actually - I just tried that and although I paused it and backed out of the app, it is still showing up in Running Services.

Many apps do not fully close by just hitting the back button or home key. I suspect the primary reason is they want to take advantage of Android's ability to multi-task or mark/cache stopping points so that resuming action does not require restarting the application.

It's the same as if you backed out of something like MS Word by closing the file you're in (hitting the back button or home key) rather than exiting the application (closing via Running Services) on a computer by toggling to another program or opening another program. The original program may stop its current action and file progress, but you don't have to restart the program to get things going.

In the end, I think developers have tried to make things faster and easier. The tradeoffs have been battery consumption and needless consumption of the phones resources/memory.

Just memory consumption. Those background and inactive apps burn almost no battery.

The key is almost. It will take every bit of radical battery technology change and more sophisticated application resource management before phones have wondrous, all-day despite heavy use, capability.

And really, the boot process for most apps is so quick that a complete, one-button exit should be possible. I'd like to see that feature written into the code of apps so it can be selected by the user.

Get enough of these things going through a fulll day with normal use, and almost no power ends describing the phone's battery status just as well as it describes how each individual app contributed to the drain.
