My wife told me tonight that if I wanted a new phone i could use her upgrade tomorrow as well as her $100 credit. Now I love my rooted Eris but I miss having a physical keyboard. Should I get the Droid 2 or is there a new Droid fixing to be released?

I was playing with a D2 in the store just today. It's a pretty nice phone, IMHO. I didn't like the original Droid, which is why I bought the eris instead - the Droid's keyboard was terrible. The D2 is much better.

Also, if you want flash, it has it.

I think that the Droid X is too big, but I'd look at that, too.

Droid 2 and Droid X are rooted, but I don't know what the situation is on the custom ROMs. I don't think you can load them yet because of the eFuse crap.

By the time VZW's version of the Galaxy S comes out, it too will be outdated. It will be called the Fascinate, and it will still be a very good phone, just not the latest and greatest. They are going for a penny (yes, one cent) on Amazon, but those are the GayT&T and T-Mobile versions. These are also on two year contracts.

I would say wait a bit longer until November or so. If Motorola continues to put eFuse on all their devices and the community is unable to crack it, it may put a damper on rooting and custom ROMs. If you're fine with that and want your phone stock, then it should be no problem and it will be blazing fast, either way.

If you want what's out right now, I dunno. Depends on if you root or not. The DInc should be good for you, but it's rather old now.

You'll see 3.0 by years-end. ;) I promise. I would say wait for "that phone" when it comes out.
