I don't mean the lock pattern. I mean the very first screen after you push end to wake up the phone? I hate having to push menu and am wondering if there is a way around this that I'm missing somewhere.
its annoying to have to push menu to unlock your screen so you dont pocket call everyone in europe and austrailia without your permission?
I just think having to push one button is sufficient to activate your screen. I know Samsung did the same with the Instincts, I thought maybe they'd have a work around this time around...
I agree that the unlocking sequence can be cumbersome in day to day use at a desk, but I understand the need to lock the phone for pocketeering.
Slight shift of topic direction, but I would like there to be a differentiation between "Sleep" and "Lock".
Whereas:
Sleep - screen is off, but once moved or with a button press, the phone comes on; no need to "unlock".
Lock - same as the lock function we have now.
Thoughts?
What do you mean? There is a screen lock..... I also find Android 1.5 to be greatly lacking in the area of user control and configurability...like a mandatory screen lock for example.
The answer is NO, and here's why: http://androidforums.com/samsung-mo...reen-lock-reducing-keystrokes.html#post110011
Not going to happen.
It will always be 2 steps to unlock the screen, for a non-flip cellphone, is what I mean. There's no way to eliminate the 2nd step. It's to prevent acciddental phone calls. No way just to have one click to unlock the screen. Just not going to happen.I don't quite follow your meaning...

I still don't follow you. There is a screen lock, which can be set to never activate (foolish to do this as it kills battery life), or be set to activate always.Heh. Double disconnect.
As I said, mandatory screen lock.

Wow, just wow. It's a portable device, designed to be carried around.Okay, but again, different folks different contexts. People don't always keep their phones in their pockets. If its on a desk or dashboard, the screen lock is just a nuissance.

I've yet to have a phone that never locks, except for flip phones. Perhaps you should switch to a flip phone. You can deactivate the timeout but I haven't seen a way to stop the lock...they're different things. So having a mandatory lock is a "lack" of control, since I can't change it.

This is not true. I'm coming from a palm Centro, the device screen turns off after a specified period of time and you have a CHOICE to turn the key lock on or not. So your statement above is not correct. If the device times out, I see no reason to have to go an extra step by pushing menu to turn it on. Obviously I want it on or I wouldn't have pushed to red end button to turn it on. Is it really that hard to understand? I'm not trying to be rude here but it's a matter of personal preference. This is one thing that really annoys me. I'm not complaining about the battery quirk, which doesn't bother me one bit but a LOT of people seem to be bothered by it. Did you tell them to "use a computer"?
